My inner fenders were all cracked and missing most of the clips and flopping around being very annoying. I have read about a few people just going without. I decided to take them out. This leaves the intake exposed right above the tire. Well i was out and about like an idiot driving through some puddles slinging water and mud everywhere not even thinking about it and it died. I gave it a few minutes and tried to start it. No luck. Pulled the plugs and tried to bump it to spew the water out. No luck wouldn’t even try to turn over. Water got all the way into the cylinders. The engine is hydro locked. Rods are probably bent and valves probably messed up. Anyway i need a new motor. Recommendations?? Also i will be doing the pull myself. My problem is that if i will be going to all the work to pull the motor and spend thousands i would really like to have a little more than 250hp when I’m done lol. I cannot seem to find built crate engines for sale stroker kits or anything like that. I cant seem to find ported heads or cams or any real performance parts either. Is an exhaust all there is to do on a 4.7 or what. Also what is a good rebuild kit for these if i cant find a junk yard motor? Thanks a lot any help is appreciated.

@empty_lord is who I'd ask in the 1st gen world. He's done some vehicle saving. For performance, maybe @dirtydeeds knows something for the 4.7?

Swap in a 2ur and gimme pics. If id done that, id swap in a stock runner, and try to build the original. Or ls swap. Or 1kz swap. Or ?12ht? Or 4-53 detroit. But i would really want a 1vd. Where you at? Ive got an extra ‘04 sequoia longblock. Well, or an ‘02 tundra longblock depending on results of a compression test.

im sure reman longblocks arent too pricey. plus, im kinda looking for trades.

Stick a used 2UZ-FE in it, replace your fender liners, don't drive through giant mud holes. That should be your plan.

Used low mileage 4.7, do headers and enjoy more power and a long living engine

do the t-belt, rear main and front cam and crank seals while it’s apart. Valve cover gaskets too. Should make for a long lasting leak free motor

The other option is to get a 3uz out of an LS430... more power. Lighter weight engine. Fabricate some motor mounts and itll bolt up to the trans..

I would but I would need a 5.3 or a 6.0, a trans, transfer, standalone ecu, drive lines, everything would need to be made custom and I don’t have 15k to spend and a few months or i would.

Likely what will happen unfortunately and it was a surprisingly small hole not even 1/2 way up the tires. Buddies stock 4Runner went right through.

The UZ series engines are surprisingly very modular. The 4.7 heads should bolt up to a 4.3. How will it affect power? Not sure. But mixing and matching would make something interesting.

but if you can find a ls430 donor for its ECU and engine plus the harness, you’ll be doing ok. I think they came with the a750 at some point. So a trans from an newer tundra or sequoia with the VVTI 4.7 and a FJ manual transfer case would make it an interesting build.

But in all reality I would highly recommend a low mileage 4.7 and reseal everything while it’s out of the truck. Coupled with headers and a VVTI intake manifold you should get a bit of a bump in power.

or find a donor truck with the vvti 4.7 and enjoy that big bump in power

What years of 3uz would bolt up? Also should i do a stand alone instead of a whole wiring harness?

The best option for me might be to throw a vvti in it, swap my long tubes over, and cams. Less guess work and mo powa.

So. VVTI would take a bit more work to make the headers work. UNLESS the engine was from a VVTI 4runner. I don’t think those got the air injection bullshit

The air injection ports would need to be blocked off. The headers sold to delete the system have little nubs to seal the holes

Ok correction. I had a moment, BUT the vvti 4runners also have air injection.

So yea... it’s a little extra work I’d say

I’d have to do some digging. BUT I do believe some came with the a750 (albeit with a 2wd version). But the ecu can likely control a 4x4 a750f and you’d just need to wire up the 4x4 or go to a FJ manual case.

Okay so about any 3uz with a wiring harness would work if i wire up the 4x4.

Hmm. They came with the a761 or the 650. So this would involve a lot of extra digging to see if the a760 out of a newer 4.6 tundra would be useable.

basically we keep coming back to just swap a stock 4.7 in.

    Or run a 3uz off the vvti 4.7 ecu and a a750f

but then you need to disable the SAIS or deal with a check engine and limp mode for ever
