this noise just started all of a sudden. Oil changes done every 5k or 6 months. What do you think. I’m taking it the dealer on Tuesday after work.

Sounds just a bit louder than my 19. Tell us what the dealer finds.

Same noise when the engine is cold or has warmed up?

Is the sound coming from one of the pulleys?

I hear it when cold and sometimes hot. it sounds like it’s coming from the back and bottom of engine. The video was filmed after a 25 minute drive.

Lol, the audio from iPhones makes the engine sound really loud, it’s not. The issue the sound that sounds like rod knock. I don’t think it is , but it’s never done before. Good thing I have platinum care.

Not from the front. It sounds like right side of engine in back bottom

    Sounds like an exhaust leak.

Not an expert, but exhaust leaks usually sound like a ticking lifter

sometimes where the sound is coming from can be very deceptive! I had a case where it sounded it's coming from the top left side of the engine and confirmed by another person but it was actually from the bottom center of the engine and was echoing ... :D

hard to tell that's why I thought a pulley sound or something ... The ticking sound is kind of normal. Are you talking about the grinding kind of noise? How old is your engine oil or any changes (brand, grade) recently?

I have 60k on it always changed the oil at 5k or 6 months whichever came first. Dealer oil service. I have 100k platinum care warranty. It’s best heard on the video in the very beginning before I place the phone in the wheel well. It is a low tone sound.

Hard to tell from the video, and at first I thought it was an exhaust leak.

Does the sound go with the valve train or rolling assembly (bottom end)? Best way to tell is if the sound is every revolution or every other revolution.

I have a "knocking" noise for lack if better description, but mine sounds more top/forward in location.

I'm used to the cold noises these engines make, this started happening at operating temp and is sporadic making it very frustrating taking it to the dealer and try to have them hear it.

So I had them change the oil and check the noise out. I showed the video to the guy up front. I was called in to the shop to speak with mechanic. He said that he could not hear it. So played the video and asked him to start it up. Sure enough he said oh yep I hear now clearly. At first the concern was innner engine. They put me in a rental and after a little bit got a call and the update was that they removed the fan belt and the noise went away. They are still trying to narrow it down. So alternator, Ac compressor —wasn’t running at the time of noise— power steering, pollution etc.
I will update it when I get the phone call.
I just want it fixed. Platinum care warranty so no worries on my end for now.

Curious if it's not the serp belt tensioner.

Just thinking, unlikely to me the tensioner but if the belt was removed...trying to think what could fail to create that type of noise.

Not sure but once they removed the belt it stopped so that is a good start. It almost sounds like a pump of sorts.

Sounds very similar to what my old truck. It was the clutch on the AC compressor, IIRC.

    Gotta love extended warranties huh?
I have the platinum myself, saved myself about 1k with a recent AC issue.

The funny thing is that the alternator was charging fine no issues. The battery was replaced recently at the 1st sign of slow start. Im hoping that is the problem, because the noise was really getting to me. The video does not do it justice.

I had a similar noise on mine and it ended up being the bearings in the alternator.
