I've had my truck 2 years with zero issues but I fear these trucks will not live up to the Toyota reputation of a long life and hundreds of thousands of miles. They're overly technical and electronically complicated. Just like every other new vehicle out there. The other day I saw a third gen 1794 missing a piece of lower door trim and realized the factory used double sided sticky tape to fasten it. I've got the platinum extended warranty and maintenance plan and once that warranty ends I'll say adios.

For a truck that expensive it's ridiculous. Whatever happened to clips and studs?

Idk dude the 80’s ended and double sided tape was used. Take some drywall screws and perma-bond it.

That should be all you need, at 120k the turbos should have been replaced and you'll get that money out of the warranty.
Heck if your ride is a 22 then you get a new motor. Rack those miles up and enjoy the ride.

I do agree though that the current vehicles are getting too technology oriented and the reliabilty with new technology is a guessing game.

Aww cry me a river. Technology is part of life and everything we do. Door tape isn’t technical or complicated. I’ll say this it’s very hard to find lightly used tundras. Every time I hit unlock I can’t wait to drive that bitch.

Then sell it and move on. Not sure what you are looking for. BTW, most trim is fastened with 3M ( 2 sided sticky tape in your words ), My sons 2004 Lexus had the same " sticky tape '

High resale values are an indicator of low volume/premium product.

The most reliable things on modern vehicles since maybe the early 1990s are the electronics and tech. As for the sticky tape issue, maybe the assembler didn't wipe the door down with alcohol? Human error.

Don’t worry, there will be plenty of new threads popping up to keep the forum lively, such as:
    • Will this unusual tire size fit with no lift and no loss of gas mileage?
    • Will 35’s fit with no lift?
    • What lift should I get?
    • What tow mirrors should I use? (Surprisingly number of threads)
    • When will I get my second key fob?
    • What lift kit should I get?
    • What is the best oil to use?
    • How often should I change [XYZ] fluid?
    • How do I wire [XYZ]?
    • My volume knob broke again.
    • Where is my second physical key?
    • When will my engine explode?
    • Did I mention what lift kit I should get?
    • Does [XYZ] brand air filter or CAI make a difference?
    • What camper can I pull?
    • Gas mileage not what I expected
    • What lift kit should I get?????
    Any gems I missed?

...at least the OP @BaldMenace is pretending this is a troll post and totally not the way they actually feel....

and hell they used clips, studs, and double side tape on the emblems on a Honda civic ,accord, prelude, etc. in the 80's and 90's ....don't think the clips and studs are any indication of price, they just couldn't get the people doing assembly to line them up in the same place is all that means without the studs..

Indeed. Anymore, I don't believe there is any vehicle out there that can be " Trusted" beyond the warranty period, whether factory warranty, or extended. That Platinum warranty you mentioned likey costs a fraction of what other manufacturers may charge for equal coverage. There is a reason for that. Pick your poison. There are certainly no gauruntees, but I think in the long run, Toyota may cause less grief than others, maybe......:fingerscrossed:

I kinda hear ya. Just traded in an ‘18 platinum with 57k miles, that I knew was bullet-proof, for a ‘24 platinum. I wanted the new one because of the tech, which is honestly really cool. But even with less than 1k miles on the thing, I’m always driving down the road wondering what’s gonna go wrong.

This is me right now, except trying to decide if I should upgrade. Have a 2021 LR TRDPro and want the new tech. Just hot 100k miles on the 21. Wanting something new but terrified now.

I sold my ‘18 Limited TRD OR CM to buy the new hotness (‘22 Limited TRD OR CM). It took about a year and I realized it was one of the biggest mistakes with vehicles I had ever made. Once the newness wore off, it was meh. The new tech for me wasn’t all that impressive. The only thing that I really wish my ‘18 would have had was the front camera, although I managed fine with the sonar.

Keep 2.5 gen then, stress kills people . I sold my 2014 for 2023 and really like new tech in one but overall quality of old one is better. I still think it will be reliable enough though
