    Hello all!

I am running Toyo Open Country AT3’s on my tundra and like them.

wife is looking at the terra grappler G3, I know they are new but how do you they compare to Toyos?

Looking for user experience with rain and road noise with light off roading. Thanks in advance!

    Alot of them
I had the G2's in the past and the traction is horrible in the rain when they start to wear.

G3 is meant to be a whole new animal. I’ve got a set on order and will check back with a review down the road.

I have about 500 miles on mine so far.

Not much I can really say at this point but here are some observations…

The truck feels more stable while cornering, especially on the highway. Handles very nicely and nimble (…for being an AT Tire). The sidewalls a bit stiffer than the factory AT2’a.

There is definitely a hum, not obnoxious IMHO. NOT as quiet as a Michelin Defender LTX.

Today I drove 60 miles in bad rain with standing puddles and they were great. In this category I liked they better than the Michelin AT2 or any AT I have used in the past. Again very stable and predictable. No surprises…

Overall I am very very happy. They perform better than the AT2’s (…these are not anywhere near as bad as this forum makes them out to be/sorry NOT sorry). They are P rated which is great for comfort and mpg’s and I get to satisfy my Tundra vanity with aggressive looking tires. A well thought out tire that does good on the street…well played.

Oh and something I almost forgot to mention which is very important. They track very straight, I don’t fight the truck at all on the highway. A lot of ATs I have ran in the past significantly wondered on the highway.

update: we went with a set and very surprised how good they have been.

We placed a set on my wife’s SUV and they do great in the rain. Very quiet and work well for our uses. Love the dual side walls too! Very happy so far as well.

very little weights too to balance the tech said. Seems like a quality tire! The Toyo open country AT3 seem a little more squishy, but I’m happy with the ride comfort. They are quieter though.

So in your opinion the Toyo open country AT3 are quieter and also provide a more comfortable ride?

I have the Nitto terra grapplers G3 on my Tundra for about 2-3 months now and I have been happy with them so far. They drive smooth, track straight, great in rain, fairly quiet and looks good.

I had Cooper AT3 XLT before and I loved them, unfortunately they are discontinued. So I had to look for different options. I cross shopped the Falken AT4W, Toyo AT3, BFG KO3. I have the Falken AT3W on my Sequioa now and I love them so naturally I went with the Falken AT4W for my Tundra. But I had some issues with getting them balanced. I took them back a couple of times and they always had a slight shimmy. I really wanted to like them but couldn't deal with the shimmy. They also ride a little rougher and more noise compared to old the AT3W. The shop allowed me to swap them out. I was going to go with Toyo AT3 but decided to go with the Nitto G3 based on good test results/review on tire rack. They are also about 10lbs lighter than the AT4w in my size. So far the G3 have been great tires, very smooth no shimmy and balanced with very little weights. They are great in the rain. I drove in a few downpours with confidence, no slipping or hydroplane. If I had to be picky and give a downside, they do have a very slight hum, maybe a tad more than the falken AT3w. But honestly not that bad, they're not any louder than the AT4w I had. Overall, I am happy with Nitto G3. But we will have to see how they are long term.

I am able to compare them in a cool way as we have both, but in standard load.

Toyo at3 is softer and slighter more loud and slightly worse wet traction. The ride is slightly more plush. The standard load version is also made in Serbia, which I dislike. But it’s technically Europe, I just prefer Japanese or USA made, just a preference. Tread warranty is 65k.

Nitto G3 is slightly more firm, but definitely quieter tire. I think it handles much better and does much better in the rain. I like the look of the side walls too, you have two options. A block side and a lightning bolt like side. The rubber looks more black than the at3. Made in USA and tread warranty 70k.

both are great tires, took very little weight to balance.

if I had to choose I like the Nitto more for the quiet and rain features.

I agree, the AT4w by falken I couldn’t get to balance. Swapped to Nitto and my opinion quiter than them. Much much lighter tire too. I noticed a small MPG bump which I liked.

Here is a tread design side by side of the g3 first and the Toyo at3 second. The tech explained to me that the more connection points or the closer a tread block is to each other, the quieter the ride will be.

Toyo owns Nitto and the design is similar in many ways except they have dimple sipes for better rain traction. Sipping overall seems about the same. One thing I noticed is the side blocks on the g3 are open and have a connection bar at the bottom. The at3 by Toyo have a more pronounced physical block in between the shoulders. Maybe this helps with stability but traps rain? I imagine when Toyo upgrades to the at4, they may steal some of these concepts from Nitto.
