Nice of Tesla, but not sure if I'm comfortable with this . . .

Tesla can change the range of your battery wirelessly (is this a word?)

    https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/h...raded-owners-batteries-help-flee-irma-n800231

Sounds cool that you can mod your engine performance thru the interwebs, but not sure I'm comfortable granting access to the car company and without my permission. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I don't like the idea of someone having control of my vehicle from their computers.

what happened is that they went from a 60kwh battery to a 75kwh battery but they left the programming the same for the 60k. what is F'd up about this is that tesla is normally charging $4500-$9000 to customers to "reprogram" the car to allow them to use the full 75kwh. that's a ton of money for a simple, over-the-air reprogramming. it seems to me, that if you are spending $100k+ on an electric car, you should get to use the full battery capacity.

True, but I bet they figured if you can afford a $100K car, you can afford the upgrade.

Some of those people probably think that the extra capacity will add weight. There are tons of Teslas where I live, the affluent here buy them just because they can. They like to be seen in them picking up their elementary aged children from the $30,000/yr school with the shiny copper roof. They can snub their noses at the other parents collecting their offspring in Range Rover and Porsche Panamera Turbo "gas hogs" who ironically don't even know the Tesla drivers exist.

I feel better now, thanks. lol

I agree with you but.....get used to it. Technology is taking over mechanical aspect of cars. Automobiles were more mechanical with less electrical components. Now, it's mostly electrical with computers taking over mechanical and electrical parts. Enjoy the driving until it drives itself and driving will be a thing of past. Lotsa new age in urban environment don't even want to own a car or drive one.

Remember how calculators took over simple mathematics and then computers replaced calculators. Sometime it feels like machines will be smarter than us humans.

After all the gas shortages lately, I'm actually interested in the New Tesla model 3. It's starts at 35k. Ive heard people say that you may be able to resell it for 5-10k over sticker because they won't have enough for the initial demand. IMG_9430.jpg

Don't forget to discount what you get back from Uncle Sam on the rebate. I think the waiting list is like 9 months to get one.

Tesla is putting themselves into a bind. They are way behind the production capacity they need and the systems they use to manage the manufacturing are all home grown. That only gets you so far.

On the flip side of that, are they really better for the environment? If you factor in all the employees commuting to the plant (no they don't get cars) plus shipping on parts and batteries, the carbon footprint is increasing. Besides, what do you do with that battery at the end of its life?

Not to mention the mining of the minerals for the batteries and coal fired plants needed to fuel these cars. Just cause you don't see smoke coming out of the tailpipe doesn't mean it's trully cleaner.

10% of us conceive, research build and execute the idea and the byproduct is the smart machine. The other 90% are followers or consumers whereas 100% of the machines have the same output with no emotional attachments.

Tesla technology is the next big thing. Musk came with the first product. Wait till the other automakers come up with their refined product.I was anti Tesla but after researching and driving, it is the future of automobiles.

Most people that get Teslas do so for show and not for the environment. It's like these celebrities that speak on global warming, carbon footprint and saving trees at rallies and events; all while using their private jets to get to these events.

I wonder what the build quality is like and what the realistic life span is of one the the currently available models.

My brother has a Tesla. I would put their interior quality closer to a high end Domestic like a Lincoln rather than European like Mercedes.

Agree, interior is not comparable to Audi, Porsche etc.
handling is better than domestic very close to German cars.
