Hi all! I'm a new Tundra owner with a (new to me) 2017 1794 edition. I previously had a gen 1 Tacoma but have outgrown it with kids and a 70lb dog. I still have and love that truck but need to give it a wax and sell. It will be painful as that truck is mint with the legendary 5VZFE engine, extended cab, 5 speed, and only 140k miles.

BUT, I'm stoked about the new Tundra! It already has 200k highway miles but it's in great shape and still drives like new. The family loves the massive leather interior and comfy ride. We just did a 1200 mile summer roadtrip and it was perfect - spacious, quiet, comfy, and smooth. I replaced the windshield, which was money well spent.

I just ordered some TRD Pro LED headlights, about to get some iHacker harnesses. Trying to decide on wheels/tires (beefier tires on the stock 20" rims, or go down to 18", or dedicated winter/summer setups) and suspension (5100 or 6112). It will primarily be on highway and dirt roads, with some hunting and camping duty.

You guys on the forum have already been a huge help in my research, thank you!

    Welcome
    About the wheels.... go 18"

More rubber less metal is a better look for a truck.

Too much chrome for my taste...will be researching options to black out or color match. My order of modification priorities are 1) TRD LED headlights (winters are long and dark this far north) 2) Tires and maybe wheels - the current Bridgestones are very quiet and comfortable, but I need something that will be suitable for fall hunting season and snowy winters. Top contenders are Falken Wildpeaks and Nokian Outpost NAT. Going to avoid 10 ply to save the unsprung weight. 3) Sway bar - I found the truck a bit floaty on the highway 4) Suspension - 5100's or 6112's, undecided. I'm not looking for a lot of lift but more planted and comfortable ride.

I'm doing some other little things like remote tailgate lock, maybe a console safe. Also considering an aluminum topper. I like the way it looks and drives as a truck, but the extra covered space would be very useful.
