Hi everybody, new member and tundra owner here.
I previously drove a 2005 tacoma with 310k miles and had the fuel pump die this week. It also was going to need a new steering rack, hoses for it, along with a transfer case actuator. She was my first new vehicle and was nothing short of amazing.
That being said, I am getting a new 2024 tundra sport, and I have some questions related to it.
I am a little concerned with how low the suspension is set, as I live in the northeast and we do get snow from time to time.
I didnt notice how low the front profile looked until looking at pictures last night.
I have signed the paperwork, but haven't picked up the truck, since I am placing a large down payment I won't have for a week.
I am planning on upgrading the tires to some falken wildpeak or something similar before winter. I've never had a vehicle lifted before, and don't want to be out of warranty if I have it done.
    Thanks in advance!

Maybe you could negotiate a free install on the TRD lift :notsure:
I believe that one is covered for warranty issues but not sure. Oh, and my front bumper is about 12” off the ground the the lower control arm is about 9” if that helps any.

You could also have a conversation with your dealer/salesperson and swap to the next “non-sport” model they have coming in that suits your liking.

Well, the Sport is more oriented at the spirited on road driver. Maybe the dealership should have explained this before you signed any paperwork.

Yes the TRD Sport is lowered in the front. You might be better off getting a TRD OR if you’re concerned about the snow. Although any of the regular models with 4x4 should do just fine with good tires, which you will want to switch out. You may as well get some value out of them, but they are essentially the worst tire ever devised from a boardroom.

Unless you get 2' + of snow in a single dump you will be fine. I have had snow up on my grill before I backed off because I was worried about all the plastic. Worry about the plastic on the front, ignore everything underneath

Thanks. I watched this video yesterday actually. It does look great with the lift. I am having trouble deciding if I need to get it lifted to accolade for the tires and possible snow buildup, or go with my original plan of getting a limited. Rhey unfortunately didn't have one in silver, but one is in on order and will be here in September. The other thing
    ..well, I need a vehicle.

Are you saying the plastic spoiler underneath or the grill, bumper area?

My plan is to immediately order some. I am leaving my long time employer for a better paying job in a month. I do get a small discount on tires now, so I want to make sure to use that perk.

Thanks. It may be hard to negotiate since I signed the paperwork with the finance department, but haven't left the lot yet since I need to bring them my down payment. Its more than a $3500 add-on, so I'm not sure.
It is apparently the only approved lift that won't void the warranty.

Bumper + Grill. The other spoiler doesnt deploy on upper trims until you are some set speed which I dont know what that is or care to know. The 3rd gen is low compared to 2nd but it hasn't stopped my from doing anything. If I have a concern it is backing my surf boat in the lake near the end of the season as the water is at box level.

Dont sweat it they are great trucks. Most people complaining dont even own one LOl

    Thanks.
What size tires are you running if you don't have it lifted? I am looking at 275/60 R20's.
    Thanks

Same size. 275/60/20 Nokian Outpost nAT. Snow flake rated if your insurance needs it for winter. I run them 365 days a year, zero concerns. In Canada on the Pacific Northwest

also don’t howl in the summer like most AT,s

The howl is the price of making memories, Hella. Besides, I like the howl, it makes it feel like a proper truck.

I was told and read the same about it not voiding the warranty. My dealer installed the kit, total out the door was $6192 ($1680 labor, $4015 kit, $300 alignment and taxes) and it took them about two days since it was the first the tech had installed. It looks a lot more like a truck now. I had the truck stuck in snow several times before the lift and larger tires. No front tow hooks sure make it a bigger issue than it should be to free it.

I wouldn't worry one bit about snow. Get good tires and use 4wd and send it. The truck weighs enough to get through what it needs to. If it can't, you probably shouldn't be driving in the conditions anyway lol

Cash out 401K for a truck!!!
Please don’t jeopardize your financial future for a truck.
    Find another way.
Btw, you’ll incur a 10% penalty on that premature withdrawal AND you’ll need to pay tax on all of it.

I know that it doesn't make sense at first. Its making my money work for me and not me working for my money. Ill be putting the amount of truck payment back into an IRA at an excelerated rate. I would be paying those same taxes if I was retiring. Over 9k in interest over the course of a 75 month loan. That money is gone forever to the bank. This way, I would recoupe my 401k balance in less than 8 years...and be debt free from loans and credit cards.

I’m assuming you are under 59.5 years old…
Say you take $50K out of 401K. That 50K will be added to gross income and will be taxed at your marginal rate and most likely that will be 22% so there's $11K.
    Plus, you’ll owe a 10% penalty at a tune of $5K. That’s 16K total.
    Now your 50K is $36K.

What’s better losing 14K immediately or 9K in 6 years???
Look into taking a loan from the 401K if you must.
That way the interest you pay goes back into your account.

    ya, man, geez.

not to be a jerk, condescending, or anything at all, but if your into all that, your way outside what you should be spending on a truck at all in the first place.

My options are still open. Someone surprisingly wants to buy my tacoma that needs a new fuel pump, steering rack and hoses, a 4 wheel drive transfer case actuator and upper control arms. That could be a small down payment too.

Get as much as you can man, all mentioned above is some good serious advice, I would heed to thinking twice about what your embarking on.

Definitely weigh in on your options Brother.

Yea don’t get blinded by the shiny new truck in the driveway and put a burden on your financial situation. Cause once the newness wears off you might be kicking yourself. I’d caution taking any money from your 401k on a depreciating asset. That money will continue to grow and grow while your vehicle will lose it. Try to find some cash for a bigger down payment and finance for less time. That will get the total interest down. Toyota has some solid incentives right now and you can get as low as 1.9% for up to 48 months. Good luck and hopefully you can get into the truck you want and a price you are happy with!
