As the title states I just purchased my first Tundra 7/31/2021. I thought I would share a positive new Tundra buying experience with you all. I'll make it quick. But, first, I would like to say I'm really glad I found this site as I've been looking through the posts for about a week and have found them both informative and entertaining. I look forward to joining future Tundra conversations.

I've been wanting a Tundra for several years now because of the engine, style and reliability. It's kinda been my dream truck. And when I saw the 2022 and learned they were doing away with the V8 I couldnt wait any longer. I owned a 2013 F150 Eco with 138000 miles and was getting concerned that the turbo would have to be replaced in the future. There was nothing wrong with it but I just felt based on my research that it the turbo and engine likely would not last me another 5 years.

Mid June I tried to build a Tundra online because my BIL built and ordered a Tacoma in January and I thought it sounded like a great way to get the exact truck I wanted. After I built it on the website it said called your local dealer which I did. I ask them about the process and they said their last 20 Tundras build orders had been rejected so they could not do it. The salesman told me about the trucks that were being built for the dealership in the month ahead. He gave me the description of a few trucks and I told him which one I like. He told me the MSRP and that the only additional charge was a 699.99 doc fee. I found that hard to believe based on current inventory and prices of similar trucks online.

He said he'd put my name on it and update me throughout the build process... and he did. He also sent me the specs, VIN and screenshot showing the truck was being held for me. Needless to say, I was very leery about the what was to come when he told me the truck was on the lot. I had already calculated everything based on the price he told me, what I wanted for my trade and had a check ready for the difference... and I had an attitude that I was not going to buy the truck if there was any difference. I even told my wife when I left I probably would not buy the truck.

Low and behold, the truck was everything they said it was including price. They offered me 500.00 less for my trade than I wanted, but that was okay because I calculated the tax wrong based on the trade-in. And when it was all said and done I wrote a check for 900.00 less than what I planned or was willing to pay. And now I am the proud new owner of a beautiful Tundra.

The main reason I told y'all all of this is to maybe get some input on your buying experience and to encourage those on the fence about buying a new Tundra.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Nice truck! Based on the documented experiences of many on here, it depends on the dealer. I found a good one, but I went through several that weren't willing to go through the order process. Glad you found a good one!

it's great to hear that you had a positive experience. Hopefully sometime soon we will get back to where dealers will be willing to sell below MSRP.

I used autotrader and some phone calls to find my truck. Searched 500 miles from my zip and after a month found something. Problem was I had to drive 400 miles to get it - no markup, no upsale - was in and out in 20 min.

Welcome from VA Beach! While I didn't order my truck I did use the Sam's club buying last year and the dealer that I selected was great with no games.

Welcome from the low country of SC!
I made the same move on the same truck back in March. My 2013 F150 with the 3.5L eco had about 100k trouble free miles and was great for towing boats, but I had an uneasy feeling about it’s longevity.
When the extended warranty folks stop sending you stuff on a vehicle it’s time to trade!
