We are previous toyota lovers, 4runner and Tacoma. Picked up this five days ago and love it with a couple exceptions .
Toyota needs to play catch up in the MPG department. The lift and tires obviously impact it a lot but it's starting MPG is pretty sad. The 5.7 has lots of power but Fords Ecoboost has similar power or better.

Anyone's thoughts on this and tundras future?? Probably a major redesign coming soon.

Welcome from NC! Beautiful truck!! If I was worried about mpg I would have bought a Prius.

Reliability was #1 for me, the 5.7 seems pretty tested. Second is looks. Hands down the best looking truck out right now. The cement color is what got us!!

Welcome and nice Tundra! When I hear people complain about MPG on a Tundra I almost want to pour hot pickle juice in my eyes. If you are driving in America today you better have gas money no matter what you drive. It would be the same if someone complained at the drag strip in a Pro Mod about how much alcohol they use on a pass. I mean, you have the most bad ass car there and everyone envies you because how bad ass you are and the only response you can think of is "man i wish it got better mileage..."

I agree with this. I was only brainstorming why Toyota hasn't made the same changes otherfacturers have regarding fuel economy.
Obviously if I wanted 30mpg, I wouldn't drive a full size puckup. Just more wondering what's around the corner... Turbos, changed gear ratios, etc

My cousin owns a Ford F150 EcoBoost and he said his overall mpg is no more than 16 to 17 if lucky and a stock set up

Not to mention the price of repairs!!! I'll always pick a naturally aspirated engine .

    Welcome from NJ.

Number one is reliability once you start adding turbos and all the electronics more things have a chance to break. Straight v8 power is just more reliable.

Welcome from Ca. Yes, the twin turbo eco boost has more power and better gas mileage. But not one eco boost has EVER gotten anywhere near 1 million miles but the Toyota V8 has. Pick your poison. Overwork that poor 6 cyl and kill it early or get a dependable V8 with a proven track record for longevity.;)

Welcome! I have owned Dodge,Ford,Chevy,GMC,and of course Toyota. I sold all of the others because they were literally falling apart after less than 5 years. The Toyota's, I sold simply because I wanted to update. None of them can touch the overall reliability and build quality Toyota! But, I hear you on your MPG concerns!

Resale. And reliability. And it think it looks the best. Not to huge on power I mean freeway you can only go 70-75 and mpgs are what they are I mean it’s a V8 truck. I would not buy a full size truck if it was a V6. A straight 6 diesel yes but not a V6 idc how many turbos it has or how many seconds faster it can pull a trailer in a quarter mile. Just no. I think ford really messed up especially in the raptor by not offering a v8 optiOn.
