Hello I’m new to the Toyota Tundra…recently purchased a 21 double cab SR5 5.7L…1st question is about changing engine oil.. all my previous vehicles had a standard oil filter but this truck has a cartridge filter and I’m not familiar.. any info would help…2nd question is on maintenance warning on dash…how do I turn this off or do I have to take to dealer??…. I’m assuming it’s because I need an oil change…3rd question is on fuel capacity…after a fill up my dash indicates that I have roughly 400+ miles to empty…is this true? Or is that until the yellow fuel light comes on and then I only have so many miles until empty??? Is there a reserve?…how big is my fuel tank??? Any and all info is much appreciated thank you in advance

You do have a canister style oil filter….the maintenance light can be reset in the screen in middle of your gauges, you need to use the steering wheel controls to scroll to it and you should see maintenance reset. You have a 38 tank. Your light will come on at 32 gallons. Your DTE is only to the light. Get gas at that point….you do have 6 gallons of gas in reserve so if you were in a pinch you could easily go another 60-80 miles depending on how you drive

Go to the Toyota website and enter your VIN# to get the specs on your truck.

All 2021 Toyota Tundras are equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 engine, but depending on your trim and configuration, your gas tank size will be either 26.4 or 38 gallons.

First, Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)!
Toyota has gone to cartridge filters for several of their vehicles. I would rather have the full cannister that all vehicles used to have, but it's not that big of a deal after you get used to it. You might want to get an aluminum housing and replace your plastic one. You will have to remove the internal filter support from your existing housing and install it in the aluminum one, but it is not difficult and only needs to be done once. Many places on this site tell how to do that.

Likely due to the need for an oil change, but it may be time for other maintenance items as well. Check your maintenance schedule. And the manual (or a quick google search) will tell you how to reset the maintenance warning.

Over time, the range when full will adjust to your driving habits, as will the amount of gas remaining in the tank when you reach 0 miles on the range. There is a fairly significant reserve remaining in the tank when the computer says you have 0 miles to empty, but it is best to get too far into that reserve. Part of the reason is that debris and trash accumulates over time and you want to avoid sucking that junk into your fuel system. Most '21 Tundras have a 38 gallon tank. I drive pretty conservatively, so can easily get 500+ miles out of a tank of gas when driving mostly highway miles. I think the computer tries to calculate a reserve of 100 miles range, so if you are pulling a trailer over a full tank, you will reach 0 miles to go with a much larger reserve than when driving with no load.

Thanks for all the info….I was told by a co-worker that I can buy a kit from Amazon that has a tool and new gaskets for the oil filter so I’m gonna check that out again thanks for the information

Pretty sure its 5k but for most uses oil is replaced 10k. The 5k service is free for 5k, 15k, 25k but then would cost money after that and they really don’t do much (only top of fluids/check things). I think it’s been commented on before but these 5k ones can easily be skipped and “done” in your driveway. The 10ks are the important ones to do/have done.

5K oil changes are primarily for more heavy duty, but 5k tire rotations are the main reason the reminder comes on every 5k miles.
