    Greetings!
My late father purchased this Tundra new and has driven it very little in the past 13 years. Mostly hunting trips and when it snowed.
Question is, while it has been started and ran on a regular basis, should I be concerned with any maintenance issues like the timing belt? Is it an interference engine?
Drives like a dream and I expect to hold onto it until it dies or I do.

    Thanks.

90k miles for the timing belt. If you're unsure of maintenance a full fluid change is cheap insurance and not to hard to do. It is an interference engine, but it may or may not screw things up if the belt snaps. We've seen both happen.

    Also, we need pics!

I believe the change interval is 90k or 10 years. I'd go ahead and have the service done. To answer your other question, chances are you will destroy the motor if the timing belt fails while the engine is running.

I would change the belt and the fluids. Also look at the brake lines and surpitine belt. Rubber stuff goes bad with age.

Welcome. What a great truck to inherit. Everyone already gave great advice. Even though the belt is only required every 90K, it also says to replace it every 9 or 10 years. So you're overdue from that standpoint. I'd go ahead and do the water pump too.

As suggested above, change all the fluids too. If it's 4x4, don't forget the front diff and transfer case. If you are capable at all, changing the fluids is incredibly easy.

Once you get all that done that truck will easily outlast you.

Thanks for the information. I didn't even think about the mechanicals timing out. looking for a better pic of the truck but here is one of dad's service. 1st Force Recon Colonel and all-around good guy. This was a shot of our last hunt together last August for antelope here in Oregon. Truck got us to the top of the mountain and back. And we bagged an antelope.IMG_20190914_101050616.jpg IMG_20180814_073028072.jpg

After the full maintenance as everyone suggested you’ll love it.

My dad has the same truck, color and all. It’s got somewhere close to 300k on it.

Love that color. I've had antelope jerky and it's pretty good actually. As for antelope burger I'll pass. That's very cool to have your dad's truck!

Fluids and regular maintenance are within my abilities. Timing belts, not so much. Currently driving a CLS-63 with the big motor and all I can do on that is take it in when the CEL comes on. Not even a dipstick to check the oil. Looking forward to wrenching again. Also looking forward to better gas mileage on the Tundra!!

Thanks again for info on the truck and the thoughts about my father.

I can see the tires aren't the original, but you might want to check out the production date and inspect them to make sure there's no dry rot.

Welcome, and what an awesome, basically NOS truck to get from dad. Like others have said, get the timing belt/water pump service done, and swap the running gear fluids. The transmission is probably fine (they are sealed units) with so few miles. I also agree with tires...probably time for new ones from a safety standpoint. Also make sure there is no rust starting underneath since it's seen snow.

And speaking of safety, there are a few recalls you should have checked at the dealer. One or two is for the airbag system, and the other is for the lower ball joints. If it's been done, you're good for a while. If not, you may be able to get new lower ball joints for free. Have the dealer run the VIN to see if it's been done.

+1 on the recalls, just had my airbags inspected and replaced as part of a recall.

    Also welcome from PDX!
