Guys I’m looking for some opinions and advice. Had a new roof installed last Friday by Sunday it had started raining and noticed water coming out of my eaves in two spots. I climbed up in my attic to find water running down the boards closest to the edge of the roof, whatever stuff happens, so call them and they are out Monday and say some of the decking didn’t go out to the edge so they are gonna add 2” flashing to replace the 1” that was on there. Thought ok it wasn’t leaking before you installed new shingles but whatever. Hasn’t rained yet so not sure if that resolved it but when the guy installed the flashing it looks terrible. Not sure if I’m being dramatic or not but it pisses me off how expensive it is and how low quality the workmanship is. Am I overreacting or should I be asking for them to redo at least the flashing?

I guess that is a form of flashing, but I have always known that as a drip edge. I have seen roofs where the deck boards didn't extend out far enough and it caused a lot of problems, BUT that has to be the worst install of drip edge that I have ever seen.

Lowest bidder? Christ that is terrible. Roofing isn't rocket surgery. I wouldn't accept that work.

Agreed, the chimney looks like a pretty hack job. Looks like the guy didn't want to fool with pulling the shingles or existing flashing up enough to run the new flashing under it. They just stacked it higher, still to the outside, of existing flashing...I don't see how that's going to do anything to help with leaking around it. And they should trim it flush to the chimney...I'd be pretty aggravated, too.

Appreciate all of the opinions. Lucky for me and unlucky for them they haven’t been paid yet so that will give them a little more incentive to do it right but it’s still a pita since I’ve already taken off work twice to deal with them.

Wasn't done by Lowe's was it? My folks contracted Lowes to do their roof 12yrs ago. Took 3 additional trips to get it close enough to right to say done. Still had to fix some of their screw ups, mainly flashing around the chimney and the roof over the front porch still leaks.

That does not look right at all.....the chimney looks terrible, the drip edge doesn't look good, and I have never seen shingles that are not completely flat at the edges. Yours look like that have a slight hump under them. Do you have to get a building permit and inspection after the install in your state? If you get an inspector to fail it, the company has to fix it, and correctly. That is your home, so do not settle for that. It could lead to much bigger problems if not fixed.

im not a contractor, but that is not correct. I'd complain. Fact that you now have leaks and the visuals of that work tells you all you need to know. It is not right.

I have never seen gutter flashing like that. The concept is correct but the application sucks. It looks like they are hitting the first row of nails in the glue strip of the starter shingles with the flashing so they just butchered it up. It looks like a third grader did that.

Contacted them this morning sending pics of it and said it was unacceptable, a third guy who I haven’t dealt with yet called me shortly after and was very apologetic and said they would make it right but we will see not to confident after what they’ve done so far.

Geez...yeah hopefully you get it resolved. As mentioned above, it's not exactly a difficult job to do. I'm not a contractor by any stretch, but I mostly finished building my shed before winter hit, and the last piece to do was to get as much roofing on as I can, and even with just the flashing and drip edge to go with the FeltBuster it hasn't leaked at all through any rain we've got yet (i.e. not even any shingles on it yet). The pieces have to be laid in the correct order in order to channel water away from the wood and house/shed, so if you're getting leaks, it sounds like something isn't right.

    Subpar terrible work.
    Hack job on that flashing.

You’re lucky you only have the one leak so far.

Not sure I would let them repair it.
Use the money you haven’t paid to correct the issue.

Some Installers will do a gutter flashing as extra Insurance to make sure nothing comes off the shingle and blows behind the gutter but that looks like ass the way its all deformed and cut up.
