Hey I am a proud owner of a 2000 tundra SR5 with a V8 4.7, my tundra has been a dream of mine for a while now and i really want as much advice as i can, my tundra only has 89 k miles on it and i understand its unique, but i am reaching out to this forum for advice on regular maintenance
and how i can keep the dash and other features clean, this is a 1 owner truck and I met the guy myself and he kept it in a garage most of its life, he brought it to me with towels on the seats and the dash. this truck is the same age as me and i haven’t driven it beside to my house to work on it, i just replaced the radiator with my dad and i would like to get on this forum to see if anyone can help me make sure this truck runs when i’m in my 80’s, im new and dont know how to post that well but i want to respond to anyone who wants to help me because its important i keep this truck in great shape like the man i bought it from.

Welcome. That’s an awesome truck! I have a 25 year old Taco and ever since I’ve had it, I’ve only used synthetic oil.

Basically maintained the fluids in my case. I’m sure more knowledgeable people would share their experiences and knowledge

Welcome aboard and congrats! What about that Tundra is so unique? Seems to be a common configuration, I’m guessing the low miles? Several members here below that number still. Read up on that thread that @Bakershack posted. You need to know when the timing belt and lower ball joints were last replaced, if at all, and with what. If uncertain or not done or not OEM parts, then they need your attention asap. Both of those things can fail catastrophically. Timing belt is 90k miles or 9 years. Lower ball joints are typically done on a similar schedule due to the design to ensure a solid working joint.

The owner before me had perfect carfax, replaced the oil every 5k miles and barely drove it, im more worried about the tires (he never replaced) the timing belt, and the tranny issues i heard the 2000 tundras have, your truck is perfection and it was alot of fun looking at it!

ill be checking these points and make sure they are in good shape, the belt is my main concern, its factory and with it being 25 years old i understand its willing to go any minute. I would like to know the overall damages it can cause if it breaks while driving, lots of places suggest I replaces all the pullies and do a whole rework on the belt setup but im unsure if they are trying to scam me or trying to help me. Thank you so much and I hope for more feedback about this!

If you will have a shop do the work, make sure you find a reputable Toyota mechanic familiar with the procedure. Use an Aisin kit with new tensioners, not a gates or any other nonsense. Slap a new serpentine belt on there while you’re at it. If the fan bracket bearing is suspect at all, replace while your in there. Usually do a radiator at the same time, sounds like you already replaced it. When these timing belts fail, the engine can have piston to valve train contact (interference) which ruins the motor. Catastrophic. Don’t drive it until the belt is addressed.

I guess im lost as to how id find a good toyota mechanic without going to the dealership. Ill be so honest, this truck was bought NEW at a dealership that is still operating to this day, the issue is my ex girlfriends dad is the MASTER MECHANIC there and he would know exactly what this truck needs, hes also know how to break its heart the same way i did his daughter. is their a way i can find mechanics who specialize on my truck? i plan on replacing the belt, factory tires (with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2's), and possibly draining everything and refilling it
Thank you for the help brother!

Tap on a users name and “start a conversation”. Many parts that were OEM were made by Aisin. Many by Denso. Other suppliers also include Spicer and Hitachi, NGK, KOYO etc.
