    I recently acquired my '07 Tundra due to finally recognizing I needed the functionality of a truck, my BMW X5 was no longer cutting it for our family needs and my needs involving home remodeling projects I do in my spare time to our primary and rental homes. Although the truck I finally "settled" on has 165k on the odometer, motor/tranny swaps or rebuilds and the like are projects I'm comfortable undertaking. With 3 weeks of ownership, replacing all fluids, ample time spent inspecting various components I'm feeling I landed a moderately well-cared for truck.

    Coming from 6 years of ownership of the '12 BMW X5 and a prior decade of ownership of a 5 series I've become somewhat spoiled and accustomed to creature comforts not found in the Tundra of this vintage, and most not even present in the top of the line new models. Furthermore, ownership of BMWs has given me the opportunity/necessity to learn electrical wiring and how to read TIS schematics, which I applied to the AC control conversion to the automatic 2015 version.

    I was able to source part#559000C120 for $165 from ebay. I made several assumptions regarding control module variances between 2nd gen and 3rd. Namely, that the ac amplifier, although different part numbers and several pin changes, that the canbus signals sent via the climate controller and received by the module wouldn't have likely to have been changed. We'll see if that assumption pans out. Additionally, the same part number for the climate blower motor, housing, flaps, recirculating box is maintained between gen 2&3.

    Worst case, I'll have to sniff the canbus to get the updated signals and program a separate custom module to communicate.

    I've also ordered a gen3 instrument cluster but I'm going to focus on getting the climate controller working before starting on wiring the cluster.

    Lastly, I'm as of yet undecided whether I'll be completely removing the full dash assembly, whether I'll pull a mold from the newer version and hack the two together, etc...

    I hope to continue documenting my procedures and hope others may find this useful.

    I'll do my best, I'm not trying to make $$ from this project, just documenting the pitfalls. If I come up with a dash "cap" solution, I'd be offering that under a group buy just to recoup my initial parts investments, although selling my old parts should considerably offset these costs.

    As of now I'm only focusing on the electrical feasibility issues, then I'll begin exploration of the dash and associated panels.

    I'm very interested in your progress. I love my 2010 but am not a fan of the gauge cluster or center stack and am curious how your conversion goes.

    Good luck. This sort of thing is usually a pretty big undertaking involving lots of “customizing” of wires.
