Do maintenance first. Timing belt job, water pump, all fluids.

What do you want out of your truck? What do you want it to do? Think that over before you mod anything.

@OwenTundra nice ride! How many miles are on it?

I agree with @Darkness. Decide what suits your lifestyle and avoid overspending on stuff that isn't practical. Focus on preventative maintenance first and for most as that will be the best investment.

Unfortunately, mods are rather limited for the 1st gens compared with the later generations.

My truck has around 225k. I have had the pleasure of replacing the starter motor, alternator (130amp), shocks/struts, spark plugs, PCV, 12v battery, all fluids, lower ball joints, driveshaft carrier bearing, and numerous other items since taking ownership over a year ago. Fortunately for me, the previous owner had the radiator, timing belt, and water pump replaced at 220k. All parts replaced are Denso or OEM equivalent.

I was eager to pursue mods when I first acquired my truck but after putting in the work keeping it stock grew more appealing vs investing more $$$ into relatively impractical mods that won't really increase the potential resale value not that I ever plan to sell it. I am a strong proponent of keeping it stock for the sake of maintaining desirability and reliability but if you have the money to burn on new wheels, armor, etc. I would say go for it!

I hate to admit but thats very good advice and conclusions @tunyota

I used to consider these trucks lacking aftermarket mod support, but I can't think of much I would want that isn't available. We have fairly good options for most off road parts.

Just today, 5mo’s after getting this truck, did i realize my final goal, what i want to do with this truck. I want to take it to greenland. So a mechanical diesel swap is probably part of the plan. Also a bellypan and frame mounts for skis. I like the idea of pietzo temp differential generators and having an insulated stove. Plus a couple solar panels that lean against sticks…

but my first mods were maintence and cosmetic. As soon as i get things nice and happy, i plan to something dumb like a solid axle swap or something.
