Hi guys, new owner here, wife and I moved to a tundra because we loved our Tacoma so much and needed some space in the back seat for a little girl that will be arriving in December

    So, few questions

    2016 5.7 4x4 crewmax

    1) while at the dealership they asked if I wanted the security system "activated" and I was shocked that it was nearly $1k to do so. I said no thanks because the wife and I were basically at the top of what we wanted to spend anyway and when they were walking me out to the truck for the last time I noticed the sales guy insert a chip into a plug at the drivers left knee position. This was just after asking how manager if the truck needed to be "activated" or "deactivated" so my question is, does that chip being in there deactivate the alarm system and if I remove it will it then have an alarm?

    2) coming from a TRD O/R Tacoma I was a little bummed that I was losing my rear locker. While messing around and pushing buttons I pushed the TCS off button and noticed "LSD auto" came up on the dash, so does the trick have a LSD stock? If so, is it front, rear or both?

I'm sure I'll have more but that's all for now

    Thanks

never heard of an alarm feature activated for 1000 and I have had four of them
They might be talking about DOP security which you can enable yourself with techstreama and a cable

Welcome from UT! Definitely look at TechStream to enable the Toyota OEM security. I did it on my 07, I haven't had a chance to hook up to my 14.

That’s no alarm, that’s the tracking system, so if someone stole you truck they could find it for you. All those are scams, like the extended warranty, seat sealer...etc

    Yup. SCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMM.

You did the right thing. The damn dealer hit you suddenly with something you didn't understand so you checked up and said "no." Telling yourself you needed more information to better understand what traditional-con-artist-dude was trying to jam on you. PERFECT.

The Mama Toyota security system, if on the truck but not activated, can be activated by YOU, the truck owner, from inside the cab with the remote.

Welcome from PDX! Taco to Tundra migrant here too. I'm much happier with the Tundra. Superior power, smoother transmission, much more comfortable. And it's not like my Taco was getting much better MPG
