Hello all, first time poster with apologies if this is in wrong area.
I have a 2002 4.7 Tundra. It's had many issues over the years. Complete chassis replacement (recall), many O2 sensors, excessive rust, etc. Now mice have chewed off wires to ignition coil. Not the main wires but the ones coming off coil cable. Can't find a replacement harness that doesn't cost a fortune. Can I slice/solder wires with any degree of trust? Thanks in advance, Jim

Welcome Jim. That sucks about the mice problems. Your not the only one. Hopefully one of our more mechanic savvy members can chime in.

The harness itself is one large unit encompassing the engine and transmission, as such I don't recommend the replacement unless absolutely necessary. Taken that into consideration that leaves you with repairing your existing harness. There is nothing wrong with that and has to be done in many cases involving rodent damage, accidents, and the like. When possible, key is to use same gauge wire, keep the length similar to factory, and ensure a water tight seal to prevent corrosion. I personally prefer soldering as opposed to butt connectors due to the possibility of an incomplete crimp and simply the bulkiness of it. Ultimately I'd solder/heat shrink the damaged wiring.

If the damage is too close to the connector, eBay has an ample supply of pigtails. Any one from a Toyota 4.7 should do.

Looks to me like the pigtail to the injector was chewed off not the coil. Also, that's pretty close to the plug so make sure you still have enough wire to work with if attempting repairs.

20171202_094600.jpg Thanks to all for your help! If it warms up today I'll strip off some of the wrap on the wires for further damage. Does anyone know what the circled connector is or does. The only thing left was the clip on the pigtail (I removed it). I think it connects to the circled wire on #1?? Thanks again, Jim

Thanks Ron. I'm way more comfortable with distributers, points, spark plugs that I can see. It's official.....I'm an old fart.
