So I am wanting to upgrade my current headlight to the Hella H4 100/80W bulbs, but after doing some research it seems I will need a relay harness to support the higher wattage bulbs.

I have found some threads talking about this, but all of the links to the proper harnesses are expired. Can someone please provide an updated link for a harness that will support these bulbs...thanks

Worst case scenario is you have to re-pin/rewire the harness as Toyota uses ground switching for the low/high beams and not 12v+.

    They are. Mine is.

Diagrams used for the fog light mod show this.

Looks like this might work then, the relays aren’t waterproof though.

I’m pretty sure all first gens use a plastic reflector housing / bulb holder, and 80/100W bulbs have been known to melt plastic housings.

For stock wiring I've been happy with Philips vision+ bulbs. Increased visibility without too much decreased life span.

I’m running them as well, with the same good results in multiple vehicles.

130w will not melt the housings or degrade the housings. Tacoma world has some real world and torture temperature testing.

These proved to be the best in the tacoma housings.

What ever happened with your headlight experiment?

Better light output for sure. But gremlins abound. I believe my new harness with relays is slowly sucking my battery dry when it's parked. I believe the new setup also draws so much current during use that the battery doesn't charge properly. Got home from an out of town trip last night and the truck wouldn't start. Battery extra dead. Got a jump, truck ran rough for a minute, (ABS light is now on, great) put it in gear to drive and the truck didn't want to move forward like the trans was slipping. Powered through that and it started behaving more normal, running better and trans acting appropriately. I tried to turn the headlights on and it almost killed the engine (I had a dead battery still at this point and was relying on alternator output alone).

So, I guess the experiment has gone poorly.

    Update:
Truck started right up today. Alternator must be in fine order as it charged the battery right back up on the 30 min drive home last night. I pulled the fuse from the new headlight harness, we'll see how the battery fares over the next couple days. Also, my ABS light reset itself and the truck is running and shifting great again. All is well in the world.

Low voltage woes before battery was recharged gave you some gremlins.

I wonder if one of the relays is staying on or fried, on your headlight harness. If disconnecting it solves your issues. Maybe check resistance across terminals and see if one is bad?

On vacation with the wife this week. Tundy will be in time out for it's cantankerousness. I'll investigate when I get back. It's also 9 degrees here.

    I have not.

If I do, I'll do the H11/9012 mod at the same time.

I just did the 9012 fog light mod yesterday. Used Phillips crystal vision. Big improvement over the old 9006 they replaced.

Just have to cut the top tab on 9012 to match the 9006. Wire harness is the same. Super easy. An oscillating saw worked well to make the cut. Then used a file to soften the edges a touch.
