It took 4 years but I finally had enough with the stock head unit. Out she went and in went a Kenwood 9907xr with the maestro stuff. Hooray!

One thing that concerned me was the possibility of losing turn by turn directions on the dashboard while using the navigation in the OEM head unit. Sure enough, they're gone. Is there a setting that may bring this back?

I've also lost the compass with the speed limit in the corner. That came in handy from time to time. I'd like to get that back as well if it's possible. This was in the small screen in between the speedo and tach on the dash.

The new head unit sounds so much better! It will take me a very long time to figure it all out but so far I dig it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok, update time. So I lost turn by turn on the dash. What do I care, AA works pretty well and I can follow along on the map.

But, all is not well. First, the front camera turns itself on randomly for various amounts of time. I can usually shut it off. Only once did I have to reboot the head unit. I have front camera interruption set to off so this shouldn't be happening. This is pissing me off. I'll contact Kenwood tech support tomorrow with my fingers crossed.

Other things-the volume won't go past 15 when holding the volume button. I've changed this in the Maestro settings once already and it worked for a day and a half. I'm less than thrilled about having to into the dash again but I don't know what else to do. Lastly, I've lost 2 widgets I think they're called. When firing up the menu, I have no input for AM or FM. I can cycle through all inputs to get there with the steering wheel but it shouldn't be this way.

I'll bring it all up with tech support tomorrow and maybe get it resolved.

Did you check the Kenwood website to see if there are any fixes or updates?

I've been on the site to download the manual. If there was more information there, I missed it.

I talked to Kenwood this morning. The first number put me on perpetual hold before disconnecting me. I called back and the same thing happened. Oh, come on, Kenwood. Let's not get off to a rocky start.

I found another support number on their website yhat was no longer in service.

    The 3rd number finally worked.

I spoke briefly with whatever her name was who sounded as though I'd interrupted her. We talked about the camera issue. She said, and I'm dead serious, you can disconnect the camera and just not use it. Really? This is what I can expect for my money? I raised another concern regarding presets on satellite radio and my steering wheel control. she said you will never be able to access presets with your steering wheel. I asked why and she repeated herself. Eventually she said that isn't a feature of the head unit as I'm the dope for not knowing.

Kenwood customer service gets a solid 0/5.

After cussing her out in my mind, I called the dealer where I bought the 9907. He called Maestro and together they figured out there is a setting buried in a menu regarding the front camera coming on automatically below a certain speed. Why is this necessary? Anyway, I was able to shut that off and hopefully resolve the issue. Everything else is just a quirk of the unit.

If it didn't bring so much life to the rest of my audio stuff, I'd be pretty cranky about buying this thing.
