Hello all. I just purchased a 2023 Toyota Tundra SR5 with almost all the bells and whistles. I just traded in my 2020 Toyota Highlander hybrid. Of course coming from a hybrid which was getting 35mpg to a V6 twin turbo and first tank getting only 13mpg was a huge shock. I still love my Tundra but just gotta get over the mpg aspect. Here are a couple of questions I have. 1) What are you guys averaging on mpg? 2) My Highlander had centering lane assist where I could take my hands off for several seconds and the vehicle would stay in the middle of the lane including mild turns. My Tundra is supposed to also have that but it does not stay in the middle of the lane. It actually bounces back and forth from the left line to the right line... Does any of yours have land keep assist?

I have a 2022 SR5 TRD Off Road with 11k miles. I typically get 17-18 mpg combined and 20-21 highway. As for the lane centering I have tried to use it a couple times and it sucks. I have also found like you that it doesn't hold the center very well so I no longer use it. My wife has a Telluride and their lane centering is night and day compared to the Tundra.

Play with the sensitivity levels for the lane centering?

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
Please don't get us started on the lane centering shit (again). You have to ENABLE it in the information screen (not the media screen) and then it will work - it will say lane tracing AND lane centering when activated. Also, telling us you get 13 mpgs means nothing. If you drive up mountain passes everyday I would be impressed.

Mpg will change with engine break in.
Take it out of eco mode and leave it in normal drive mode unless on a long highway cruise with no traffic.
Reset the mpg calculator for each tank.
    With a 3” lift and 35” tires I’m seeing 16.5 city/highway.
It said 12-13 mpg for the first 2 or 3 tanks of fuel.

Play with Lane centering as suggested.

    truck looks nice, enjoy.

I averaged only 16.8 mpg on my last1300 mile trip from Colorado to Missouri. All highway in a empty non-hybrid 2023 with a total of 4K miles on the odometer. Not too impressed by that.

And yes, my Lane Centering sucks. Sensitivity settings don’t have any noticeable affect on the annoying ping ponging back and forth in the lane. My wife thought I had been drinking when I was testing it out. Useless feature, IMO.

Get it broke in. I am at 19.8 lifetime just turned over 29k today. I have drive pretty bad (really lay into the turbos, which is very fun BTW) to not get over 20 on the highway.

I am not a fan of the self driving mode so I turned it all off.

Do you have a lift, oversized tires or a really heavy foot? The mileage seems low. I've got 4K on my non-hybrid 2023 and I'm averaging 18.5MPG with a lot of city. Always 20MPG or so on the hwy. Totally stock, 36lbs in the tires.

My tires are 275/60r20, so only slightly larger than stock. No lift. Adjusting for tire size only brings my mileage up to 17 on the highway. Still disappointing. I drive very conservatively too.

According to Fuelly, after 7 fuel-ups and 1983 miles, my truck gets 17.5 MPG. I drive a mix of freeway and in-town, split pretty evenly My lane centering was NOT turned on when I got the truck from the dealer. When I finally figured out how to enable it, and adjusted the sensitivity it works pretty well. I have no issues with it despite what many claim. :crapstorm:

I got mine just as winter set in and I was averaging under 10 mpg for the first few months - lots of idling and negative temps. I haven't reset my fuel economy gauge and my average is over 16 now. At just less than 5k miles, I see in-town trips at anywhere from 15 to 22 mpg depending on length of drive.

Are you driving in the city?

I'm getting 11-13 mpg on my daily drives to work through San Francisco stop signs and traffic lights. Highway is about 16mph

It's just test drive hybrid Tundra, same route, and for about 18-19mpg city.

I'm averaging 18.5mpg in my Limited TRDOR non-hybrid. I've been getting 22-23 on longer highway drivers.

I turned the lane keep assist off the first week I had the truck. It was too sensitive for me.

Mine was turned off in the settings on the steering wheel. Once I turned it on like several have suggested it started working great...

Just got my 2023 Tundra. Crew Cab 6.5bed. Drove 300 miles on the highway. Averaged about 25MPG. Really surprised. Was expecting 19-20MPG

For everyone buying a new truck you need to reset mpg after you leave dealership. It’s an average and is low at start because the dealership has your truck idling in the service bay while working on pre delivery.

    I’m getting 19-20 avg (hybrid).

Lane centering works pretty well for highway driving and straight roads.

Not to be a smart-ass, but I think that's pretty obvious. I reset mine often.

In my case, the mileage seems to be declining as I put a few miles on. The truck showed I got 19.6 mpg on the 2 hour mixed city/highway ride home from the dealership. Now I'm getting 17 mpg on the highway with 4k miles on the odometer. I've also noticed my distance to empty display has gradually dropped after a fill up from around 480 to 460. I plan to mention it on my next service appointment, but I'm not confident they'll do anything about it.

I also plan to record a video of my truck in Lane Centering mode the next time I'm on a suitable stretch of highway. It will clearly show that Lane Centering is activated, since it's pretty obvious on the MID. It will also show the not-so-subtle steering corrections that the system makes as it ping pongs from side to side. I'm hoping there's a calibration to correct that, but again, I'm not holding my breath.

Lane centering only works with the cruise control on. Assuming you are doing this?

Yes, I'm fully aware of how to activate Lane Centering. Like I said, the MID makes it obvious when the system is activated. It's also quick to alert you when you keep your hands off the wheel for a few seconds, or when it's not sensing a line on either side of the lane.

The thing is, my truck tracks as well as any vehicle I've ever owned. On a flat, straight stretch of highway, I can let go of the steering wheel and it will track true for miles without Lane Centering on. I would understand Lane Centering struggling with a mis-aligned front end that was pulling to one side or the other, but that's certainly not the case with my truck.

On my Toyota tundra hybrid I force I can get 19-22or > mpg if i watch gauges and let electric motor come in when needed like off a stop light and not tromp it let it raise rpm up easy where turbos don't kick in and decelerate where regen braking will work and coast to red light. Just the same way you would drive a semi to eliminate the stop start as much as possible. That's just me.
