Was just reading a few intros and it occured to me I never did one (not a big deal, haven't been here too long). Anyhoo I felt like writing something and figured I might as well put one in.

Lifelong Toyota fan and owner. My Mom bought her first new car in 1978, a Corolla SR5. 11 years later when I started learning to drive it was in that. I got to drive it till I was 18 (She finally parted with it in 1997 I think, wish I had gotten it). My Dad got a new Celica GT in '84 that he had for a few years and that's where the itch started. Side note - did you know that SR5 originally meant that the vehicle had a 5 speed manual transmission?

So when I was 18 I bought my first car - a 1977 Celica GT. I ran that 20R till the day the chain broke. When I pulled the head off there were fissures/cracks all over the place, even in the block. No telling how many miles were on it cause the odometers didn't go that far back then. But it ran like whipped mule till the day it died.

After that I had a few mid 80s Toyota pickups, 20R, 22R, and a 22RE. But of course I went back to Celicas, first an 89 GT, then a 90GT, and a 92 GTS (probably my favorite ever). Wish I had been able to afford a GT4 though, would definitely still have it.

Then I was getting to the age that a family car was in order. I tried an early Previa then Rav4 but those were awful. Had a couple 5sfe powered Camrys which were great, and then a couple 4Runners which were fun but I couldn't stand the seating position in them.

Life moved on and I tried a Tacoma but still preferred cars for that sitting position. So I went to a 95 Celica ST, then a 96 and 98 Celica GT. Years went by and I found myself in a couple of last model Celicas 00 and 04 IIRC, but I think I liked those least of all of them. I helped moderate a Celica forum for a number of years, great community.

So at some point I wake up with one Camry and one Prius in the drive and decided it was time for something different. So here I am. I've never owned a new car, the Prius was probably the closest I've got, it was 5 years old when I bought it. I'm not a mechanic or expert or professional, just worked on all my own cars since the beginning. So here I am working on a 2013 Crewmax 5.7. I swear I love Toyotas but this 2013 was not the best introduction to Tundras

Maybe one day I will find myself in a new Celica when they bring them back in the next couple of years, but for now I really do like the Tundra platform and Toyota is still the best. Although a heavy duty version of the Tundra would be much appreciated, not this silly V6 non-sense.

Welcome (belatedly) from LA (Lower Alabama)!

I dated a girl in college that had an '84 Celica GT. I LOVED driving that car!! I didn't come from a rich family, so I had a Corolla.

Yes, I remember when the SR5 meant it had a 5-speed. I wish it still meant that!

My favorite Toyota of all time was the '88 Supra. That styling would fit right in today. My neighbor has an '89 that he inherited from his dad. It is only vehicle of his (of 6 or 7 vehicles) that he keeps in his garage, and he only drives it on really nice days when he can open up the roof.
