    I got this code today.

    The truck drives fine.

Suggested part for code P1780 was the Neutral Saftey Switch.

Truck starts in park. In reverse the trucks rear lights kick on as they should.

Any other way I can diagnose my check engine light ?

Is it possible I slapped it into park and only got half way into park and locked it. I have a remote start on the truck (which I’ve had for a while ). So I’m thinking I started it in its halfway position.

Yes. Diagnostics are in the FSM. Link to download the FSM is in the megatrhead, but by now you should already have a copy saved on your hard drive. Search for the 5-digit code string, and get crackin’.

Ok good news. Doing my own diagnostic with videos I found online and a hunch I had about when it started I got it solved.

From the time the light turned on I drove 5 miles with no issues.

checked reverse lights. They worked (I don’t know if this faults when not working but mine were working so no confirmation there ).

My car started in park just fine.

I started it. Put it in N. Turned off. Then turned on and it fired up no problem. Sat for about 5 min running, light is gone.

Let me rewind to it being set off …

I was leaving on vacation. Normally when I do I park this truck behind my old 94 pickup so it doesn’t walk off while I’m out of town.
The night before I didn’t do this. So we were leaving for our trip and I was in a hurry. Grab my keys repark and run back to my wife’s truck and we head out of town. In my hurry I believe I didn’t fully seat the car in park. Instead I put it somewhere in the middle of park and R. Then On my return I used the remote start and I heard an extra chirp. Boom light shows up.

Hope it helps someone in the future.
