2020 TSS Off Road...............we call him "Bob"
I'm heck bent on getting a Tundra over the next couple of days. All I need is a 2wd.
I'm looking at a 2021 TRD Sport and I see quite a few TSS Off Road (?) all going about the same price. All within 1-3k in price range ($40-$43K)

I go to look at a TSS Off Road and it's bought. They sell a bit faster than the TRD Sport.

I'm leaning towards the TRD Sport (CrewMax). My question is......at the rate these TRD Off Roads are moving vs this one TRD Sport NOT selling, am I missing something, that I'm not aware of? I've seen it, I drove it, I like it......but, why isn't it selling? Maybe because it doesnt have the AT Tires and "meaty" look? (yet)

This will be purchased solely for piece of mind....minimal off road, mostly highway. I'm hoping my model terminology is correct......I'll get there sooner or later.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Are the TSS models you're looking at 4WD?

No....all 2wd. As I sit here fixing to go look at another TSS Off Road......it sold. Posted last night, moved this morning. $42k. The TRD Sport, still sits. It's just a "gut feeling", that I'm missing something on this TRD Sport. I want it, but something is stopping me.

Tss is a regional specific upgrade package for gulf coast as far as I know. Perhaps the dealerships are more motivated to move these vs trd sports due to the profit margin being higher since they are essentially sr5 with appearance packages that cost roughly 5k
I’d get the sport and be happy with the color matched grill and bumper

In November 2020, I bought a new 2021 SR5 TSS 2WD. Did not need a truck. Just wanted a truck. It was silver so the TSS package looked pretty bad a$$ to me. And it rode pretty nice...or at least I thought it did (I say that, because before I test drove that truck, the salesman had me test drive a heavily modded (lift, tires, etc) truck that to me was an absolute nightmare to drive).

After 4000 miles of ownership I grew to hate the ride (I never left the pavement). The rims were a hassle to clean, the the side steps became really really ugly to me. Not to mention all the chrome. I soon realized the TSS package is about the most overprice trim option one can buy...and it is mostly cosmetic.

Long story short, a new white SR5 TRD Sport appeared on the dealers' lot. I made the trade and wow...what a difference. It was night and day difference on the pavement. By comparison it drove like a sports car. And it got slighty better mpg, but that is like a Sumo wrestler dropping 5lbs...neglible in the big picture. The keyless entry and dual zone heat were nice to have. And the lack of chrome...outstanding (looked just like the picture in my info block). The dealer had already added those same side steps which I immediately removed. I luv'd that truck but eventually sold it for various reasons within a year and currently drive a CR-V.

But yeah, bottom line, if on the pavement, you will be much much happier with the TRD Sport. You are actually getting some non-cosmetic upgrades in the form of the sway bars, shocks, keyless and dual zone (vs hard to clean rims, black out badges and noisy tires). And of course the de-chrome is already done.

Who cares what others want. Get the TRD Sport. You won't regret it.

Get the TRD Sport, the TSS is basically a appearance package.
The TRD Sport had no chrome, everything is color matched, nicer grille, sway bars, better shocks and the fake hood scoop.
If you don't like chrome you would be spending money changing everything to color match and you still wouldn't have the front and rear sway bars along with the better shocks.

I think the TRD sport price is firmer, TRD sport have leather steering wheel, LED head light, red bilstein shocks, TRD sway bars, 20" rims...I want a TRD sport but price are too high at the time...

Tremendous responses, I thank you. Like some, I don’t need a truck, but I want one. Hard to haul stuff, do yard work, etc in a bimmer. Dang it, I’m getting a truck. Yes, 99% on the road, I may veer off once a year. I’m thinking my “gut feeling” was also the dealer I was having to work with. Sales guy was good, but jeez, the finance twit, i just couldn’t bare. Found another, exact same model, only 14k miles on it. I’m jumping it.

Thanks again, I’ll be lurking to learn more. Looking for Cat Shields and probably up the stereo and how easy it will be. Stay tuned for more newbie Tundra questions.
