Hello everyone this is my first post and I apologize if it is in the wrong place and for the length. I'm trying to help my friend get his truck fixed after a mechanic did a hack job of installing an engine. The truck is a 2006 tundra crew cab sr5 2wd 4.7 when he first got it there was no issues but it started knocking so he got an engine from a 2006 sequoia 4x4 and had a mechanic install it. After it was installed it wouldn't drive but the mechanic used the sequoia wiring harness he told the mechanic to install the original harness which I don't think he did when I got it it would idle at 2000 rpm and dies when putting it between gears. It had codes for the crank cam and transmission range sensors those have all been replaced along with the throttle body. The truck now idles properly but dies when shifting into park or netural but goes into reverse and drive fine and drives fine. I found out today it can also be started in gear. I'm thinking about installing an entire new harness but don't want to waste his money throwing parts at it. When it dies it acts like you shut the key off but the dash stays lit up it will also throw p0340 and p0345 when it dies. I have also pulled the engine covers and checked the timing which is spot on. Sorry for the long post just didn't want to leave anything out

Welcome to the forum. I can’t help but love the forum name you chose, @Fml101 ;) Hopefully someone that’s played with some swaps between Sequoia and Tundra will chime in, you’ll get this figured out, and your chosen name will no longer make sense.

The most likely hang out on another thread, so I’ll copy/ past your original post over there, see if we can get you started.

A quick search netted this. I'm sure you've seen this much. https://www.700r4transmissionhq.com/p0340-toyota-tundra/

If you can get the test procedure for the cps and/or check the wiring to it(them?) That might be worth a look. Another good thing to check would be all the engine or ecu/pcm grounds. I'm no expert, but it does sound like wiring or grounding could be likely.

@empty_lord is the most knowledgeable guy I can think of. I'm betting he might have an idea or two.

    Good luck!

He put a sequoia harness in the truck? That’s likely the issues. I don’t think sequoia pin outs are the same on the ecm

The fact he put a 4x4 harness in a 2wd truck is also an issue. There is a difference in pinoit between 4x4 and 2x4 (the whole ecu is different too) By the sounds of it the mechanic owes him a wire harness. Lots of parts being thrown on for what likely is a case of the wrong part being tossed in with the new engine due to laziness

The mechanic told him he reinstalled the original harness but I have my doubts
