I’m having some issues with the transmission on my 2011 tundra 4x4 5.7. 192k miles. I bought it with 153k on it about a year ago.

No history of trans maintenance. Has had a hard shift into 2nd for as long as I’ve owned it. I’ve done a full fluid exchange with toyota WS fluid, new filter and pan drop. Nothing suspicious on the pan magnets. Fluid was very dark but didn’t smell burnt.

Fluid is at the correct level.

I’ve now noticed a flared shift into 5th under moderate acceleration ONLY when I manually shift into 5th from 4th in S mode. It’s not really noticeable when that shift occurs in D.

Everything else is fine in the shifting, I only have the hard shift into 2nd and the flared shift into 5th.

From what research I’ve been able to piece together, the S2 solenoid plays a role in both of those shifts...

    No codes.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

I have a 2011 4.6L that has a similar problem only that it has a hard time going from 3rd to 4th gear. I do not have any shifting problems when I drive in S mode. Did you happen to of found a fix for your issue yet?

It's just a guess but it could be a shift solenoid problem. As they wear oil leaks around the internal valve and the pressure is not as good as it should be. But it's just a guess.
