Hello all, its a pleasure to be here. New member, first post. I am picking up a 28’ travel trailer in august. The trailer weighs 7600lbs and maxed out weight is 8800lbs. My payload is 1185 and the tow cap on my tundra is 9800. It sickens me that i may have to buy a 3/4 ton ford, chevy or dodge. I swore i would never own anything but a toyota for the rest of my time on this planet. I have never had any issues with my 2 tundras, or my wife and kids 2 4 runners. Someone please tell me that i can pull this trailer with my 2018 Trd or a 2023 v6 turbo (not a big fan) tundra. Thank you all so very much!

Thanks Mattedfred. I guess i will start researching 3/4 ton trucks. Good news is im sure i will be able to sell my tundra for top $. Only worry is the reliability of the others. Appreciate the feedback bud.

With a perfect 10% tongue weight you are left with 305 pounds for you, your passenger(s), weight distribution hitch, cell phones, chargers, snacks, drinks, dirt in the carpet, etc. Theoretically if you were a svelte fellow you might be able to squeeze in at gross weight.

No one seems to know exactly how the GVWR of the Tundra was determined. It could be something as simple as the ability of the parking brake to hold on a grade. (I doubt it since a simple redesign would sell more trucks)

Regardless, it's a good number to abide by since we never know what conditions can be encountered on the road. Personally I'd rather not worry about it so I keep mine at or below gross.

Keep the Tundra and get a trailer that's 1,500-2,000# lighter.
