My 2015 Polaris 570 Sportsman is not in terrible shape, and it runs well, but I have had it nine years and I would like to have a new and slightly bigger ATV with updated everything. I am looking in the 600-850 engine size for forest work, farm work, not a recreational machine, strictly a working machine. I am interested in advice from experienced people here, thanks.

Hi. I bought a Can Am 570 in January 2023 and so far I am quite happy with it. I did have a bug in my last Can Am ATV that I bought new in 2017, so I really did not want another one from that manufacturer. I was going to go with a new Honda, but found out the newer ones in the last few years with the DCT have issues with rough shifting and some major issues, and it doesn't seem to be fixable. I test rode one that someone bought and turned back in with 3 miles on it and found out what I was reading on the internet was true, this machine ran so rough it had A LOT of trouble shifting into gears and there was significant delay that was not acceptable, it also did not sound right. It was a Rancher and I had previously owned a couple automatic Ranchers and they did not do any of that.

Anyway, I would def take a look at the Can Ams, they seem to be pretty decent, they have a decent amount of power as well, and so far no problems thus far with my 570. They have a 700 and I believe you can get it in a base model if that is what you are interested in. Honda might be fine if you stick with the manual trans. I have never owned any other brands, but I am sure others who have will chime in on the thread. Best of luck.

I haven’t owned the bigger Polaris units but we’ve had two on the farm that worked and always had great luck with them.

I've got a 2011 CanAm 800 XTR Outlander. I plow a fair amount of snow with it, but the shifter directly below the
throttle makes it not a good work machine. The newer ones are definite improvement from the old.
Honda makes the best working ATV in my opinion. Transmission design is solid.

Yamaha Grizzly. Very tough, very reliable in tough conditions. We had them at work along with sport atv’s.
Although, you can’t go wrong with a Honda. Just got rid of my trusty 86 250r.

I have a couple friends who work at a dealer that sells both Polaris and Hondas, and they both have wrenched for decades on the side. For Toyota like reliability, they both said Honda hands down before I bought my Honda Foreman (with power steering and electronic shifting) in 2015. For the engine size you mention though (600 to 850), you would have to go with a UTV in a Honda. It looks like Honda ATV engines only go up to 518cc.

Actually a SXS would be a better work rig. CanAm and all of them make dump boxes, utility boxes - the list is infinite.
    Tough call.

Completely agree. For a forest and farm work machine, I would opt for a SXS/UTV over an ATV unless width of UTV and/or slope of property were an issue. I use my Honda Foreman for a work machine on 3-ish acres. I have enough slope and tight spots between trees to where an ATV works well for my property. If I didn't have these issues, would gladly have a SXS/UTV. More capable for work stuff.

maybe for a general purpose work rig, yes. but i do mostly forestry work, land management, and it really calls for the ATV platform. the SxS is great for woods roads, farm fields, light hills. thanks for the suggestion

Then a CanAm 800 Max. I had a max and for some reason traded it for a single up 800.
The Max means 2 up and it longer wheelbase and if solo a whole lot more rear deck room. I bought mine for
long trips up north towing a trailer. It pulls single axle trailer for days without even noticing it is there.
CanAm is IFS and IRS, really lively and in my opinion best suspension on the market.

My work style is solo, no doubling up. The thought of one of my forester buddies sitting up tight against me and holding me...I just puked on my laptop. No. Solo it is. And I do have a log arch that I have used with the ATV, great for small logging jobs and tight turns.

Its the extra wheelbase, load capacity and stability on steep slopes is why I recommended it for. I haven't had a copilot since last
century, let alone someone on the back of my ATV.
