What is this switch for? It's in the "on" position now

Do you have an aftermarket remote start installed? I had to 2004 Tacoma that had a switch that look identical for it and it was the kill switch for my remote start.

Turn it off and see if the truck starts. Maybe part of a alarm system???? Or a service switch for the remote starter if you have one.

Maybe a hidden kill switch. Try it!

If answer to both questions above are no, you’ll have to remove that panel it’s attached to and attempt to find what the wires are hooked to given it’s not factory install.

If it is a kill switch, I personally would find a less conspicuous place.

I installed a switch like that and right there on my Tacoma to disable the ABS when driving in the snow.

I'll guess a switch for fogs on when hi beams are on. Does the correct answer get a prize?

More than likely it's the valet switch for an aftermarket alarm. If you didn't get an alarm fob when you bought the truck, you can take the kick panel off to find the make and model of the alarm and get a new fob connected at a dealer for that brand of alarm.

+1 on it being an alarm control. Valet switch or the like.

Seen those installed on vehicles with aftermarket alarm/remote start systems (Viper, Python, Clifford).
Who knows, you might have a nice alarm system installed. If so just get the remotes and have them programed to the system and save several hundred bucks.

In that case I’m going to go with a passenger seat ejector switch :) or a kill switch for the remote start...

This is what I was thinking it could be. Also, I'm interested to hear if we can do an ABS kill switch in our 1st Gens.

Pulling the ABS fuses does the trick. I was going to relocate and rewire them with a switch, and then I realized I really had no need for a switch, I just pull the fuses the first time it snows and keep them out until spring.

Mine are out as well but I was thinking about this the other day. I'm convinced my brakes are not capable of locking up unless I'm in snow or ice.

Well, snow and ice is when the ABS is the worst, but you should be able to lock your brakes in any situation if you step on the pedal hard enough.

Unless there is something wrong with your brakes.

Either your brakes are substantially better than mine or I have better tires. Or both?

I don't see any way my brakes are good enough to lock up in the rain. I had this problem in my 02 Corolla but not in the Tundra.

So let me get this clear, your saying you can't lock your tires on dry pavement? As in, skidmarks, screeching etc?

What happens if you are going down the the road at lets say 30 and you just stab your foot down as hard as you can.

Because what happens to me is that I smoke the tires and leave black marks if I do that (with ABS off) Every vehicle should have significantly more braking force than tire traction. If you don't, you need to fix something..bleed the brakes, etc.

I mean I've never tried that scenario but the few times I've had to really get on the brakes I've not come anywhere close to sliding tires.

I was actually looking at a Mityvac bleeder. I don't think I have any air left in the system but I could be wrong. Honestly, we all talk about how shitty the brakes are on our trucks so I'm surprised to hear you guys can lay rubber.

Well, it doesn't happen during hard braking, which it shouldn't anyway on dry pavement, but stab the brakes like a deer just jumped in front of you and you should chirp your tires at just about any speed.

Or if your tires are good enough, end up picking your teeth out of the windshield but either way the tires should stop rolling.

And maybe a rocker type switch that doesn't stick out. I'd be worried about hitting it with my foot when using the parking break.

Is your truck from Canada? Every one I bought at the auction that came out of Canada had those. Never did find out.
