I've had this mystery rattle since I got my truck in December. I would notice it at very low speeds anytime the truck was moving. I figured it might be a ball joint or bushing on the way out but I carefully inspected everything in the suspension and all ball joints and bushings were solid. I had also removed my skid plate thinking that might be the issue after reading a bit on here but that was not the culprit.

I started thinking it probably wasn't a suspension related issue so today I was poking around under the engine bay thinking it was a loose intake box or something.

Turns out it was this stupid clip that holds the wiring harness to the firewall. When I pulled on it, I discovered it was loose. I unclipped it and went for a drive and the noise is completely gone. Thought I'd point this out because this one was kind of tough to pinpoint so I'm hoping to save someone else from the detective work.

I just want to thank you for finding this. I’ve had the same noise I’ve been trying to track down for the past year. Mine is the same exact thing as you described. Did you re-attach it in a way so it wouldn’t rattle or did you just leave it off?

    Glad that helped you out!!

Annoying as hell, wasn't it? I've just left mine off so far. I was messing with it on my lunch break the other day and ran out of time. I will probably remove the clamp and either zip tie it or put something on the inside of that plastic clamp so that it's tighter. I just haven't done that yet. It really feels pretty solid having it disconnected. I'm not even sure how necessary it is to be honest.

My truck isn’t really that old either. 20 with 26k miles. I do drive down a rough road for work so maybe that contributed to it coming loose.

Damn…I wonder if this is what is rattling on mine…usually hear it when in gear and foot on brake…or just when rolling forward in gear.

It will only take you about 10 seconds to check. I was able to tell easily just by wiggling that clump of wires. Just pop that off and take it for a spin.

This rattle killed me for about a year. I pulled my dash completely apart multiple times. Bought headphones with 8 probes, had to be a contortionist laying down under the dash while someone else drove etc.. I read another post that pointed to this exact issue and it happened to be it. I just put on a big zip tie

That's crazy man glad you figured it out as well. I never really felt like it was the dash on my truck. I could tell it was outside in the passenger side area but like I said, I originally assumed it was suspesion related. I did quite a lot of searching but didn't find anything that showed what I found. I recently replaced my shocks myself so I knew it wasn't suspension related.

I'm glad I figured this out. It made my truck sound like a shit box. Lol. I knew it wasn't anything serious but it was driving me insane. The other weird thing was that this winter when it got really cold (like below 5-10 degrees F) it did not make the noise.

Man now I need to check mine. I've had a passenger side rattle forever. Only happens at 2000-2200 RPM sounds exactly like a loose heat shield but I've never been able too find it. Coming from engine bay passenger side. I hope this is it!!!!

Gonna have to check this too - always assumed it was a wire in my passenger side kick plate. I've considered putting a sock or microfiber cloth in there to try to see if that would resolve it. Dealership has been less than useless at trying to help.

Edit: nah, mine is super tight. Guess I'll have to go grab ol' crusty

Every Tundra I've ever owned has rattled going over bumps in the road, or potholes etc. I've never been able to figure out what it is. Although I think we're talking about a different rattle than what you are describing in this post

Went on a mission this morning to figure it out. We’ll it wasn’t the clip but I did find 4 loose items that rattled when I bumped and shook everything. Im hoping this solves it.
1: passenger side washer hose vibrating. Used foam tape to dampen
    2. Washer fluid reservoir front bolt loose and washer rattles.
3: Power /relay box lid clunking at every bump. Had a spacer to wedge under compressor shelf
    4. In cab glove box shelf rattling and door to cabin filter was not secure. Foam tape again.

Just throwing this in here to hopefully help someone else in the future.

I had a rattle that I swore was coming from my passenger door speaker. It was live-able but got worse & would kind of come & go. It started to really annoy me. So I sat in the passenger seat recently & from there it sounded like my armrest or maybe my AJT black out kit. I was stumped.

I took out my Amazon center armrest organizer thinking it was that & noticed I had some business cards in there. I used to keep them above the sunglass holder area. I literally pressed on that piece of plastic & the rattle stopped. I don’t know how like 7 cards could’ve stretched that piece out over 6 months to cause that, but it was my mystery rattle. I put my business cards back up there & I haven’t heard it rattle once since.

Well, it was one of those things I did. Rattle is gone. However, now I have a really bad creak in my front end suspension somewhere. Time to pull the skid and start narrowing it down.

This thread has me on a war path! Found the front end noise. It’s my TRD skid plate. I’m assuming it’s tweaking against the cat protection plate. I originally had the front of the cat plate seated with security bolts. I think the button heads were causing a shear metal to metal squeak. Still working on a fix.
Anyway found a bunch more rattles this morning and took some video’s for others to reference possible areas.
    Truck is super quiet now!
