So I'm going through my new to me 2007 Tundra and stumbled across these two components screwed to the lower dash panel. I was hoping that someone could help me identify what they are before I trace the wires through the truck. The first one is a small enclosure with a momentary switch and a red led. I pressed the switch with the ignition both on and off without any noticeable result. No turbo boost, no blaring horn, and no fresh $20 bills spewing out of the CD slot??? Anyone?

The second small unit also has an led and what almost looks like some kind of memory card or encryption card? When I pull the card out of the slot, the led starts flashing. There is a label on this one that says ES25?

These probably have something to do with some kind of alarm, but the previous owner has no knowledge of these units. Two owners before me. I'm intrigued by the small card that can be pulled out but have to wonder what kind of silly alarm would that be where you have to pull out the chip each time you want to arm it, lol.

So, give me your opinions/guesses, and I'll start tracing the wires (there is a large relay connected under the dash, and none of it looks factory).

Did you try starting the truck with the chip out? Looks like a devise to prevent the truck from starting without the “secondary” key

Could be either aftermarket alarm or a device lenders put in to track/remote lockout the vehicle. Check your battery and fuse panel in the engine bay for “extra” wiring.

Mystery indeed. Got me curious. I tried dropping the images into images.google.com and see what rabbit hole that lead down and NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH.

Haven't gone out to the truck yet, but that's a good idea to try and start it with the chip out. It could very well be some kind of interrupt device. And no doubt, there are three splices by the steering column, a relay, and more non-standard wiring going to who knows where. Gonna go out now and report back.

Maybe? Someone had shitty credit and this was installed to disable the vehicle if they missed a payment? I knew a guy that had one and it worked!!! Never did look at it though...:notsure:

Looks like one of those dealer installed alarms or disable devices. Do you have any additional antennas like a gps?

looks like the chip one i'm familiar with. dealers would install it as an antitheft item. the chip was in the start circuit. the other contacts were ground so if you tried and didn't get it right a fuse blew. If the purchaser didn't want to buy the device, they would cut off the handle leaving the chip and wiring mess in place. if you bought it, it came with two chips with handles and a "guarantee" against theft for so many months....

A Chevy truck had one that I bought new in '93. The dealer didn't even mention any anti-theft devices but I bought it through the fleet department. It didn't start when I pulled the little "chip" so it went back in. I kind of knew what it was since I had been to other dealers before I bought that truck.
I installed a Clifford alarm anyway since that's what I always used back then.

Well, looks like that's what I got in my truck too...for the time being , lol, a device to disable the vehicle. It doesn't seem to be a tracking device as it isn't sophisticated enough, but it looks just like what Cidertom and Bleach are talking about. I really appreciate all the feedback and contributions. Looks like I picked the right Tundra forum to join

Didn't have time to trace the wire loom yet as I got sidetracked with cleaning the engine bay, so I still don't know what the little box with the switch and led is, but I'll get to it after the Superbowl if I'm sober enough, lol. :oldglory:
