Got rear ended by a Ford Focus doing 80. I was doing about 20-30 when I saw the Focus closing in fast. The Focus hit the rear bumper on the passenger side, went under the bumper and then up the side of the Tundra. Focus is totaled, but my Tundra doesn’t look too bad considering the circumstances. Underneath is a different story. I was able to drive my Tundra afterwords and it didn’t feel like anything was messed up.

What I’m getting at is has anyone else had a similar experience and what ended up happening with repairs? Or did insurance total it? These Tundras feel solid (evident from my first hand experience) but who knows what really went on damage wise.

OP just went through a total loss claim. A woman in a Highlander turned left in front of my wife so she hit th ehighlander head on. After 5 weeks of back and forth they declared it a total loss. Took another week to get them to pay. Under Alabama law if repairs are 75% of fair market value. it is a total loss, under that a repair. the rules where you live may vary.

Wow, I thought there would have been more body damage if she was doing 80 MPH.
    Hopefully your frame isn't bent.:fingerscrossed:

Thanks. I'm hoping that too. I waited a while and worked hard for this Tundra, this being my second one and first brand new vehicle ever.

Go to Kelly Blue Book or some other site and get the value of your truck with the mileage and print it out.
Once your truck is being repaired the value is going to go down because of the damage.
Then you can go after their insurance for more money because of the diminished value.

Damn. Tbh if someone hit me doing 80 totalled or not I don't think I'd keep that truck anymore. That's alot of energy that slammed into the tundra. No telling what problems that would cause down the line. I mean granted collision tech is leaps and bounds what it used to be , but in this case I can't imagine wanting to keep it

Last time I was hit like that was in my 04
Dakota, before 2k factory Hitches, cameras and sensors. Sorry, Can't even imagine what costs must be tied to it now.

If the bedside is fawked too probably getting into the 10k plus
    Range.

The Tundra took it like a champ. I was in motion so it helps a lot with the kinetic energy. I really do love this truck, its mine and if I can keep it I will. However, with it still being a new generation my concern is the lack of experience in repair.

First off....truck looks not bad for a hit at that speed so rest knowing you ( and family if involved ) are OK. Secondly, dont sweat the small stuff, every time any of us drive off our driveway we take that same risk. Your fine, truck will be fine......life goes on.

Don't let yourself get steered to a bodyshop you're not comfortable with. My vehicles go to a place that works for the area luxury import dealers (Porsche/Audi) so I'm confident they're comfortable with 'complicated.

Here's some advice: You *THINK* you are okay. Go to your doctor for a checkup. Go to a physio therapist and get your neck assessed for whiplash. Even they say it's not a lot, depending on your insurance/opponents insurance, you are entitled to a certain # of visits to a physio/chiro/massage therapist. Even just go get the massages from a Registered Massage Therapist. Double check which certs your insurance requires and go to providers with those certs. It helps support any claims you make that you've suffered damages.

I didnt feel bad after this wreck. Went to the Dr and I now have permanent damage. Hired an accident attorney and got 100k.

When the car "driver" waited till they were IN the turn lane before signaling, they were suspect.

Exactly this right here. Obtain appraised value of the Tundra without accident and then with the accident. You now have leverage on Diminished value claim if they repair. Did this exact same thing with my TRDPRO 4 Runner. Damage was minor-required rear bumper cover. The Insurance company for the party that backed into my parked 4Runner played stupid at first..........then they paid out after started talking I was represented
