So I have a 2014 MGM tundra TRD. Sick rig. I'm contemplating trading for a Chevy 2500hd ltz (of course it'll get lifted and new shoes)... Or should I lift my truck (8 inch ready lift) and put new rims with 35x12.5 mid tires.

Not sounding cocky or anything but money isn't a driving factor. My wife is no help, she says I'm an idiot and wasting money and being effin ridiculous (it was a world war 3 conversation). That being said, I need to have honest conversations on this, if your gonna be a jerk scroll on please.

You're asking on a Tundra forum if you should keep your Tundra or buy a Chevy?

Is there a need for an HD truck. Do you tow? It looks like you could fit 35s on the tundra already. A little trimming and voilà!

If you need a beefier truck, you need a beefier truck. Kinda hard to say more w/o really knowing what you're wanting to do.

I bought a new tundra because I got tired of fixing my GMC/Chevy truck.

Here is my personal experience with a new 2014 Sierra:

    Idle dropping, truck shaking.
    Random stalling at speed
    Random no start
    Exhaust valve broke
    Drivers door lock
    A/c Evap core cracked
    Seatbelt pre tensioner broke
    Ball joints
    Bad battery cables

Most of these issues were from new and some never reconciled.

Go google “Chevy shake” or google that electric steering problems where it pulls the wheel out of peoples hands and into cars and freeway walls and such. Or google the a/c failures. Anyway, I gave up after 5 years and 48k problems of constant problems and bought a Tundra.

The Sierra drove better was more comfortable and was quieter. None of that makes a lick of difference when the truck won’t start though.

Cut me some slack o_O. Gotta ask family for honest opinions.

I have no business looking at 2500... I have been car shopping with the wife, saw and sat in the 2500 and trying not to fall for the 2500hd.

You can fit 35's on a 3/1 kit, some folks on here go with a 6" or 8" or BIG with a Bullet Proof kit 10" on up

    Fair enough.

ZappBrannigan made some valid statements and after some quick reading he has helped me on making my mind up. 99% sure I am going to keep my Tundra.

Gonna go to the custom shop tomorrow and set the date.

Talking here is helpful. Much appreciated. This is why I came here to ask about keeping my tundra or buy a chevy.

Conversation with my wife doesn't help. Her solution to everything is save save save and any thing expensive is stupid.

if you don't need a 3/4 ton truck, why get it? i just got rid of my Duramax for a Tundra because i couldn't justify it anymore, was not the best DD and i didn't tow nearly enough. that being said, get it if you want it.

EDIT: guess you made your decision, i think you'll be happy you kept the Tundra

Comparing a half ton daily driver used to drop the kids off at school, pick up groceries and maybe tow a little boat around on weekends, to a 3/4 ton work truck... If you need or want the capacity, the 2500HD.

Its pointing out the obvious... I don't need it don't get it...

I needed to talk it out. Being told I'm an idiot and ridiculous didn't help me make my mind up. Everyone here helped make sense of why keeping my tundra is best option

I also had a 14 Silverado , I bought my side steps from a guy that had a 14 Sierra that GM bought back because of the shake GM bought back quite a few , my 14 had recall after recall I couldn’t wait to get rid of it now I have a 19 Crewmax and couldn’t be happier . I also had ac failure at 32000 but I was out of Warranty My extended warranty covered it .

2500 Hd comes with a 6.0L or a duramax. Can’t go wrong with either one. Been a Gm guy my whole life. Had a 14’ Sierra half ton. Complete nightmare. Most money I ever spent on a vehicle ever. Ticked. Then went 17’ Colorado. Great truck but torque converter issues with no fix. Said f gm. Went to Tundra. More than pleased. But needs are the issue here. Gm quality control is a joke anymore. But if I had the need. Would consider the 2500. I’d go the 6.0 route myself. Love my tundra. Only been in it less than month. Can tell from the get go. Gm can’t touch this truck. I will
Never own a Gm truck ever again. Makes me sad. But I’m dead serious. Rather spend money on money on my house or investments.

Absolutely! Use the Tundra as your DD and use the 2500 for those special occasions when you need it.

Your truck doesn’t look like it’s modified enough LOL. I say throw some money at it and make it fun. Put the money into quality parts and a well-thought-out plan. If you don’t need a heavy duty. It’s really unnecessary and probably going to end up with more maintenance in the long run. Especially as a daily driver. Get some big tires stuffed into that wheel well. I don’t know what type of suspension you’ve got going but the skies the limit. Don’t forget to regear it.

What is the reason for going to a HD truck?

Unless you go diesel, HP/TQ will be less than what you currently have. Using a diesel as a DD is not in your best interest long term.

The issues that @ZappBrannigan discussed is 1/2 ton issues. I would never recommend any other 1/2 ton but what you already own, but you already stated a 3/4 ton is wanted.

Personally, (and you already made the decision) I would keep the Tundra.

This is coming from a guy that owns a GMC 3500HD diesel, if that means anything to you.

That truck was such a pile of crap. Mine actually broke on the way home from The dealership.

My dad is in the car business and even though he owns an immaculate 04 Avalanche he'll tell you straight up that GM electronics are junk. That goes from side mirrors to sensors and everything in between. Dont get me wrong a 3/4 ton whether it is a Ram, Ford, or GM look super tight when they're done up and if you don't care about fuel cost and DEF plus the other added expenses that go along with a diesel then cool. Ultimately it is a decision you have to make on what you want.
