Finally received my new Tundra last night!

2019 Limited CrewMax. White exterior, Tan interior. Grill/Bulge/Surround swapped by the Dealer.

AMP Power Steps being installed tomorrow.

    A bit of a journey...

12/8/18 - go to Dealership, order truck, pay deposit, shake hands. Done deal. Truck will be here in 3 days. Assured me it was ok to go ahead and sell my 2001 Tundra since i had a buyer that was ready to go.

12/10/18 - sell my 2001 Tundra (daily driver) to it's new owner. Wow, these things really hold their value. Feeling pretty darn good.

12/11/18 - Dealer calls me: we don't have your truck, it's not coming - You're screwed. Should not have sold your truck. I have no car to drive and my wife needs her 4Runner since she works, and we have a kid. I'm a little freaked out. I remember my wife saying.. you think you should really sell before you have the new truck?

12/12/18 - Dealer brings a loaner Tundra to my house for me to drive. It's an SR5. I'm feeling better. They're telling me how lucky i am to have the Loaner but I'm still annoyed they didn't get my truck and encouraged me to sell my 2001 but whatever. Really missing my 2001 Tundra about right now. If I had just kept it, none of this would be happening.

A couple of pics of the Loaner truck: https://www.tundras.com/threads/tundra-buying-blues.36147/#post-913932

12/19/18 - Dealer: your truck will be here next week, just in time for Christmas! Cool, things are looking up. Getting excited.

12/22/18 - Just kidding. Your truck was sold to some guy in Alabama. BTW, hope you're enjoying my truck pal!

12/27/18 - I never heard back from Dealer and i can't get hold of them. They don't return my call or email. Strange.

1/5/19 - Still can't reach anyone at the Dealer. Wondering what I should do with their truck? Put over 900 miles on the truck, they still won't call me back. Is this good or bad?

1/15/19 - Hey, sorry we didn't get back to you. Tell us what you ordered again? A Tundra, right? Ok.. it will be here on 1/29. For real this time. Trust us..

1/23/19 - Literally out of nowhere: hey, your truck is here and it's ready, come and get it...right now please. Put over 1,200 miles on the Loaner truck.

When this first happened, and I heard they didn't get my first truck, here's what the Dealer agreed to include:

    - Line-x Premium (medium value - they get a good deal)
    - Swap my Limited Grill for color matched bulge/surround + black honeycomb insert (high value) - looks awesome
    - Tint front windows (low value, but i wanted it done)
    - use of the Loaner Tundra (huge value - i sold my daily driver so i didn't have a car)
    - $5,000 off purchase price (not sure if this is good or not, i felt it was just ok)
    - Dealer sends me home with something else, very special, but i don't want to disclose what it is for a few reasons (high value to me, maybe not others)

The root cause of all this was the Tan interior. Turns out, there are only a few Tundra's with Tan interior anymore. I've been told by multiple Dealers that tan interior is all but being phased out so they're very hard to come by (at least in my area). In the end, I'm very happy i waited and got what i wanted. I still think the White/Tan combo is classic looking.

During the shopping and buying process I became obsessed with knowing I got a "good deal". Looking back, I'm not sure that was the best use of time and energy. Regions vary, inventory varies, trim levels vary, on-and-on it goes.

My advice to anyone that's shopping would be: shop hard, definitely spend some time understanding your market and surrounding markets but then make the best deal you can and move-on and start enjoying it. Had a lot of time to come up with this deep thought while driving the Loaner.

Wish I could have kept my faithful 2001 Tundra but had to let it go for several reasons. Still, long live all the 1st Gens out there:

Holy shit talk about giving someone the run around. You kept your cool a lot better than I would have been able to after selling the 1st gen and yours not being ready.

Glad it worked out for you! That extended loaner deal wasn't too bad.

Looks nice.. real clean! I'm in the same predicament. I plan on selling my Subaru Outback at end of 2019 and getting a '16-'17 low mileage 1794 or Platinum. I am going to private sell my Outback. Should I get the truck first then sell my Outback? Keep in mind I am not financing. I am going to use the value of my Outback ($33k + what I save this year) to purchase my Tundra. Would hate to be out of a vehicle for awhile. Not sure how I'd get work and back.

Geez. Glad it worked out. Great looking truck. I’d be furious. But in the grand scheme of things. What could you do. Congrats on the new rig.

Nice truck. I hear you on trading in your old truck. I traded in my FJ when I got my Tundra a month ago. It was a long goodbye. However, I’m happy with my choice and love he Tundra. Congratulations.

Nice truck and I am sure that you are satisfied with it!

When I ordered my 2005 Tacoma I was told that it would be delivered in about 3 weeks. I did not even think about selling my 1995 Taco until the new truck was in. Good thing because they never got the truck and I put down a $500 deposit. I went to a different dealer and they found just what I wanted in San Antonio and had it there in 1 week. Not only that but the one they found had the optional curtain air bags and daytime running lights. They even gave me a better deal and cut the price $2K lower than the original dealer. I was also pretty happy to get my $500 deposit back. I never went back to that first dealer since then.

Lesson learned: Never give up your old ride until you get the new one!!!

Only question i have: do you want tan interior?? If not, you’re good to go. I’d say sell your rig when you get the right price.

I paid cash as well so i feel ya
