So I finally took delivery of my new 2022 SR5 TRD Offroad today. I’ve been driving Toyota trucks for over 30 years, and Tundras for the past 20. I've had two first-gen and two second-gen Tundras, plus a couple 1980-90's Trucks and a 2011 Tacoma that my son still drives. I drive a lot, typically 40K+ miles per year. Every Toyota truck that I've ever owned has been incredibly reliable and durable - and holds their value - which is why I keep coming back.

I own what's now a fairly large construction company in upstate NY. I took delivery at 12:30 today, it was a typical Monday, so 4 hours later I had 176 Adirondack miles on it. It’s already been off road, on gravel roads, up and down mountain passes on 2-lane roads, 40 miles on an interstate, and on 3 jobsites. I got some saddle time on dry roads, in mud, and through a torrential thunderstorm. We didn't see any snow today, but it's coming soon enough.

    A few initial observations:
    • It's a MUCH smoother ride than my 2015 TRD OR
    • It's incredibly quiet inside the cabin at highway speed
    • This motor has good power, but I miss the V8 growl
    • The 10-speed transmission will take some getting used to
    • The interior is nice, comfortable, has great ergonomics and better storage, and I like having Apple Carplay. I'm not a fan of Softex seats so this one has cloth. I just wish they would offer heated cloth seats like they do in Canada.
    • I got a Crewmax this time because the new DC rear legroom is a complete joke and I have 3 teenage boys. I'm gonna miss the larger bed though.
    • I'm sure I'll figure out and eventually learn to appreciate all the new technology, but I valued the simplicity of my 2015. I'm buying an extended warranty for the first time ever just because of the tech stuff.
    • I'll never understand why Toyota puts chrome accents on a TRD Offroad, but no front tow hooks.
I'll do some light hauling and towing with it later this week, and then next week I've got a 700 mile trip to/from PA. Installed the Offroam phone holder at lunch today, it's perfect. I'm still looking for the right set of wheels, have a set of Cooper ATs waiting to be mounted. The Truxedo lo-pro tonneau will get installed later this week. I still need to find a bed step, and aftermarket seat heaters and Husky liners before winter. Then I'll be ready for the next 100K miles.

I like the sound of a V8 too, but once you hook up a trailer you will appreciate the quiet, smooth, effortless TTV6.

I had a Ram 1500 in Calgary the other week as a rental and it sounded awesome but it honestly got annoying climbing and descending the grades in Banff

Congratulations on the new Truck! I also have had only Toyota trucks since 1987.

Nice truck. You might had to have waited but, unless you had the 8ft bed on your old DC, you didn't have to miss the bigger bed. I have the same truck as yours with three 6.5 bed.

I drove a CM with the 6.5' bed before ordering this one... rode nice on the highway but it was too long to be practical in my world. We've got several trailers and a Ram3500 dually if/when I need to haul something long.

Awesome to hear all the previous trucks have served you well with 40k miles a year! Hope this one keeps you going as well!

    Congrats!

I tell family and friends that don’t own or have not rode in a 2022 Tundra, but to me it is the smoothest riding truck I have ever owned and I have owned many trucks in my life to include Ford/Chevy/Dodge. Even after my lift and larger tires STILL a very smooth ride. You think you may buy more of these for your business? What company/fleet brand trucks do you use now?

FREEDOM, It's shocking how nice this rides on the highway. I drove over to the Berkshires to meet a customer today, and Rensselaer County roads are worse than most offroad trails. The crazier part is that I'm getting over 19 MPG on my first tank of rural road driving (and I've never been accused of driving slow). Sadly we needed to buy a Dodge to get a 1-ton truck for the company, I wish there was a Toyota option. My son's Taco has been as bulletproof as my Tundras. Our PM drives a Chevy, and every time it goes into the shop (which is 3-4 times/year) I bust his chops.

JeremyTRD, I'll bet we're the only 2 guys on the board who have a clue where Gansevoort is (or where the name came from). Maybe we'll cross paths one of these days, I was up in Whitehall yesterday on a job site and will be again on Friday.

Congrats on the new ride, @CecilP! I have a very faint hope that Toyota will enter the HD truck world at some point in the not-too-distant future using hybrid powertrains rather than diesel. The iForce Max already makes more power than every 3/4T and 1T gasser truck on the market.

    Post 9.

I just got a Truxedo Sentry CT on mine. Looks good but still won't fit my Makita cordless miter saw when it's mounted to the gravity rise mobile base. Trying to hold off on getting a camper top this time around.

actually i prefer the softex seats to the leather seats. that have a better durability than the leather ones.

haha this is True! When people ask where I am from I normally just say Saratoga or Lake George. I am definitely sure we will cross paths. I drive all over Saratoga, Warren, and Washington County. I have a desk job but seems like when I am not here I am always helping friends with farming, cutting wood, hauling random stuff and picking up scrap. I average around 25k a year. Who knows maybe if you come into a decent size supply house you'll see my one day.
