Gear shift won’t move or won’t turn over? If latter, can you hear it attempting to start?

    Stupid question:
    1. Did you check the tail light fuse?
    2. Did you check the brake light plunger on/near the pedal assembly to make sure it's intact?
    3. Did you check both tail lights are working fully when you press the brake?
    4. Did you recently do ANYTHING to your tail lights?
    5. Did you park on a hill without applying the e-brake?
    6. Have you tried rocking the truck back and forth?
    7. Is the steering wheel lock engaged?
I'm asking these things because others on here have found that if a brake light is out, shorted, brake light fuse is blown, it prevents the parking lock from disengaging, and you can't shift. Likewise, one person with a damaged tail light socket found they couldn't shift until they put the original tail lights in. A couple others found the plunger that triggers when you press the brake, which is what triggers the tail lights to come on, was broken or not working, the shift lock wouldn't disengage.

Or he could’ve realized you step on the brake before shifting it out of park. I’ve seen quite a few people who drive stick make that mistake.

What I've encountered is... if I park and turn steering wheel hard either way then cut off vehicle without releasing the steering wheel first, I have to then force the steering wheel the way it is turned to get it out of park.
