Had a 2013 Tundra Double-cab Limited 4x4. Great truck -- but a driver ran a red light and, according to both insurance companies, it's a total loss. (I'm sort of surprised by this -- super clean, low mileage truck @55k, and it took a big smack on the front-end, but don't think the adjuster exactly crawled over her).

Anyway, while the liability issue is sorted I'd expect I'll get some sort of offer soon, and am seriously considering a '19 or '20. A couple purchase questions:

    1) Why are double-cabs so rare? This is the perfect combo IMO for great interior cargo room, the occasional person, and still having a *normal*-sized bed. Will dealers still deal aggressively on these?
    2) Price is very important. Scanning the 'price paid' thread, I see reference to a $3000 rebate, but don't see anything on the Toyota Incentive's page on the corporate website. Is 10% a fair starting point off MSRP?
    3) Limited configs -- seems pretty reasonable. Is the JBL stereo (have on my 2013) worth the upgrade?

Important things are 4x4, 6.5 bed, 5.8L, and Double-cab. Half-thought about giving an EB Ford a look (two buddies have them), but almost everything is crew-cab and 5.5 bed, and the Lariat is about 50k from what I can tell. And in 6 years of owning her, my truck didn't have a hint of a hatch rattle, or squeak, or quirk. In fact, after putting new Yoko's on her (another thing I'm pissed about), it drove as if when I picked it up.

DC aren’t that rare, I don’t think anyway.
The stereo is garbage and it definitely needs to be updated

Hope you’re ok as far as injuries go. If you can find a 2019 that’s still on Dealer lot, i think you. an snag a great price. A 2019 is basically the same truck as the 2020 except for a few minor enhancements.

Any idea what you’re getting for the 2013? Sounds like you’re still waiting on the offer

Double cab limited's are a bit harder to come by.

Shop online requesting prices with different dealers internet department. I'd go in with the goal of paying invoice or less and always check out Costco pricing if you're a member.

The 2020's are definetly worth it, unless you can get an exact grade match in a '19 for say $5k+ less. That said the minor enhancements on the '20 is pretty darn good...

I just went through a similar situation. Had a 2013 Crewmax Rock Warrior that was totaled in accident. Red light as well. Only had 48k miles. USAA paid me $33k. I bought a 2019 1794. Looked at used tundras for 3 months and with interest rates for used and used tundra prices, I bought new. As far as the tires which it's sounds like you just replaced. USAA told me if I had receipts for any purchases to provide them and they would prorate the value and give a adjustment to the payout. Good luck!

To echo what OV-1794 said, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what the insurance offer is. If you loved the truck, just get into another one. Find a newer CPO which will come with the 100k powertrain warranty, and find a left over 19’. The doublecabs just don’t sell like crews, so I’m sure you’ll have an easy time finding one on a lot.

Hope your ok...IMHO this time of year shoot for 14.5% off msrp, then subtract any rebates. Add tax, tags, fees. Be prepared to walk out... but be ready to buy if they accept your offer....shoot emails out to a bunch of internet managers.... I bet you won’t believe what they give you for your old girl(in a good way)... but don’t take their first offer either... look for what comparable trucks are listed for... good luck!!!

Thanks all -- yes, I'm fine, and the other driver is fine, though I'm sure not eager to go through something like this again. Glad I was in my Tundra. USAA is my carrier, but I'm assuming the other ins. co will assume liability (still waiting for the police report $*#&%$). As a data point, I can provide their offer when they get around to it.

Leaning 80% to a Limited DC 4x4 6.5, unless there's a smoking deal on another model. I tend to keep my vehicles for 10+ years (when in my control!!), so buying new is attractive. I like the specs of the Ford 3.5L EB and Lariat, in terms of mpg, and performance, as well as 'bell and whistles' but have real concerns about reliability and there's that 5.5 bed issue. Also, I found out they still have that auto-stop/start crap.

Buy another 2nd gen tundra. Then you know you won't be disappointed in a week after you just bought something.

The dealers around here are offering $10k off the 2019s but their stock is pretty slim right now. The volume dealership by my place only has 3 or 4 left and I think they're all CMs. But theoretically the CMs move better so you should be able to find a DC with some searching.

Well, insurance company accepted liability and settled. Basically a little over $29k for a 2013 Limited 4x4 DC with 56k. Seems fair -- Carmax lists some for $30k and other dealerships are asking less for 2014's.

Still really on the fence. Going to drive a Lariat tonight (I know, I know). I also have an internet price of a $39k + fees for a 2020 SR5 DC 4x4 with the TRD Hunter package. Anyone add leather and a better stereo in the SR5's, and come out better than a Limited trim (ie, nicer interior and head-unit)?

Just went through the exact same thing and bought a '20 on Sunday. Not only was the Double Cab a requirement for me, but I also had to have it in Silver and a Limited. What I found out was, you can basically get a '19 for almost $5k less than a '20. $3k in factory incentives and you can haggle about 2K more and also get a better APR. They just weren't dealing on '20s because the dealerships only had 2 or 3 on their lots. Atleast in my area. The only difference between a 19 and 20 is the Keyless entry and Push button start. The antenna gets moved from a regular stick antenna on the fender to a Shark Fin antenna on the roof. And it adds Apple Car Play. But also found out Apple Car Play requires your phone being connected by wire via usb. Which I was really disappointed. But the keyless entry is awesome. Only drawback to that is it only works for the front doors, so if you have passengers in the back, you still have to press unlock. Can't really help you find a truck but thought I'd let you know what the differences are.

If you’re going to do any hauling go with the DC, the extra bed length is so worth it and you have a real 4door back seat.

I had an F-150 Supercrew with the short bed and hated it, every time I hauled something I wished I’d gotten the longer bed. Tundra DC is the best 4door 6.5’ bed configuration out there in my opinion.

Yup. It's like a vortex. Had the first generation Tundra with the suicide doors, but normal bed. Then this 2013, which was about perfect for a truck. "Enough" room back there, real doors, and a 6.5 bed. I don't haul a lot, but when I want to use it as a truck, I want it to be a truck, you know? The DC config really is perfect.

If I open myself up to the 5.5 box, then I *might* look at other vehicles. Drove the Ford 3.5L EB tonight -- it's nice, but I wasn't that blown away by performance (though didn't really mash it during test ride). The Lariat with 520A package has some nice bells and whistles but a lot of crap I don't -- parallel park, really? And it's crazy priced at $65k.

Agreed. I thought when I bought my 2012 F-150 Lariat with a $48k sticker it was a lot of money. Unreal what truck prices have done!

Don’t sign anything with insurance until you are satisfied and don’t take the first offer. Don’t lie about your neck hurting or hire a slimy lawyer, but something could come up later. They’ll offer something low to start off knowing they’ll go higher.

I'm definitely not recommending that you buy a Ford but you can get a Lariat crew cab with the 6.5 ft box. Might be rare on dealer lots, though.

Tried a Ram 1500 tonight, and got a $50 gift card for the test drive. It’s a nice truck. But I kept thinking about all the things that might break.

Leaning heavily to a 19 sr5 with the trd package and nav with enhanced stereo and some other stuff in the same dc 4x4 config. I just don’t see the premium for Limited, though I swore I’d never not get leather.

The problem with the SR5’s is you have to get the SR5 Upgrade package for the 38 gallon tank and the TRD OR package to get the LED headlights. And those two packages add like $4200. That puts you really close to the price of a Limited.

If you belong to Costco look at their auto program. That's how I bought my truck and when we bought my wife's Toyota.
We paid if I remember correctly $1000 under invoice. We couldn't find any better deals when we looked at the time for her car and this spring for my truck.

BTW, I got a double cab as I needed bed space more so than cab space.

If I was buying new, I would probably do a SR5 and upgrade what I wanted. (came from 2010 DC Limited)
the only thing I would want for sure on the SR5 is the 38G tank and the parking sensors. they help a lot.

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing. About 45k MSRP in my area for a '19 DC SR5 with those packages and Entune Premium Audio + Nav(plus some other outrageously-priced add-ons) vs. 47k for the single DC Limited which has the "Limited Premium Package" but not any TRD package. The Limited says "premium JBL Audio" but there an asterisk (*only in CrewCab), so is this just the same Entune system as the upgraded SR-5?

The newer F150's with Ecoboost are nice trucks. I have a few friends with them. They ride really nice. There are a lot of threads on the forum comparing the two and I was considering it also once upon a time, along with the Silverado 1500.
-Every car is mechanical. Mechanical things break eventually, some faster than others.
-The Ecoboost gas mileage, when I drove it, was not on par with the rated MPG. It was closer to my tundra and I was driving the 2.7, not the 3.5!
    -I didn't like the start/stop at all.

Yeah...this is truly a first world problem but I'm putting in WAY too many hours obsessing over this new truck choice. I've had two Tundras: a 2000, which was great except not quite large enough to pull some boats I owned and it was 2WD and didn't have limited slip, so I had some nasty ramp experiences. Otherwise, super solid truck. Zero issues mechanically, beyond front disk brakes that needed to wear. Then, this 2013 DC, which I was going to keep forever until this guy hit me. Mileage wasn't awful (16ish) and improved by 1MPG when I put new, non-AT tires on her. Great factory stereo with a subwoofer under the rear seat. Completely useless navigation/screen display. But zero mechanical problems -- granted only 55k miles. I like the leather (err, 'pleather' more accurately) because I fish and boat a lot and it's easy to wipe down when I' and guest are grimy from salt-water and fish slime, etc. This is one of my fears with the SR5 cloth: stains and odor retention.

The double-cab is a great config. Wife and I don't have children. I have some fishing kayaks that are 12-14' long and they fit nicely with the tailgate down (but would probably be fine in a 5.5 bed, tbh). Sometimes I wish I had more interior room when it's raining and I have to load the cab with stuff, or use Hefty bags. I like the looks of the DC, but could probably make either config work.

A new 2019 or even 2020 seems pretty similar to my 2013, and a step down in some ways with the audio, though I've spent more time looking at everything but the Tundra.

The Lariat and Laramie definitely have tons of cool sh*t -- I love the huge sunroofs, and the thought of 21+ MPG from a 3.5 EB (since most of my driving is more highway). The new Ram's interior really is awesome, in terms of comfort and features. Back in the early 2000's the Japanese imports really had the interiors just dialed-in -- really solid feeling dashes, consoles....Now, I don't see that difference. Materials -- on the surface, anyway -- seem the same between Ford/Ram/Toyota. And if you're going to spend $50k (hand-wave figure) on a new truck, it's nice to get some kewl stuff.

OTOH, if there's one thing I despise it's cheap crap breaking. I've always liked a simple item that's well-built, always. And my fear with Ford and Ram is that the 'pedal height adjust' will quit working, or the sunroof canopy will sag, or there will be weird squeaks and rattles after 40k miles, or...I'd probably not feel comfortable in either w/out an extended warranty, so for the trim levels I'd like, probably $55k out the door. Probably $7k or $8k more than a 2019 1794 or Platinum out the door.

    Just rambling. Thx
