Was just wondering if I should be concerned about the recall for the tonneau cover flying off. I’ve seen some comments that the MX4 bakflip tonneau cover is the same as the Toyota OEM one.

I got an MX4 installed on my pro from the dealership because I got tired of waiting for the OEM one. I’ve had it for about 4 months now and have not had any issues.

Copy that. I installed mine Saturday. I’ll check back in, after a week.

Did the dealership pick up the cost?

Is the MX4 identical? My OEM lets so much water in at the corners.

the OEM cover was actually included in my purchase agreement. I got my truck at the end of feb 2023, then the recall happened a few days later smh. By May I got tired of waiting and got them to install the MX4 instead.

Actually from forums I’ve read and reviews. Most have said the MX4 is basically the same, just with a few different pieces. I’ve also read about it being better than the OEM cover.

As for water, I’ve seen maybe a few droplets here and there under the cover after a heavy rain. Haven’t noticed any leaking from the corners. Seems pretty tight for something not expected to be 100% water proof.

Yes, it does let water in at the corners, it has occured multiple times with the factory provided cover.

I was worried about this recall since I have the MX4 on mine. I called the MX4 folks and they ensured me theirs is not part of the Toyota OEM recall.
