How much would it be to buy a 16”+ vs renting one??

Borrowing one is not an option seeing as that it’s a long distance

By the way: I’m selling almost everything I owned if anyone needs anything. A 3 story home worth of crap won’t fit in a small trailer, and I ain’t renting a big truck. Plus there will be 2 less bedrooms to outfit, with 3 less people to haul for

I would rent because you won't need to find storage for the trailer, register the trailer, have insurance for the trailer, and then try to sell the trailer if you don't need it anymore.

    None, yet....
I bought when I moved cross country. Look at it this way, if you rent it’s X dollars, which is effectively gone, money spent. If you buy, you have the luxury of choosing to keep it or sell it. If you do sell, you may loose some money on it, but it would probably still be a whole lot less than renting a uhaul. At least for us, a Uhaul 1 way was like $3500. If I would have bought a trailer and sold it as basically new and lost $500-$1000 on the deal, I’m still money ahead.

    If you’re buying:
When I was looking for trailers, I found that the further out I went from a big city, the cheaper they got. Also offered to pay cash and lowballed basically everyone I found that had the trailer I wanted. Ended up getting mine for $2500 less than what it was marked for.

    Great info; hence asking around.

Check this out.....UHAUL says according to me “only having a Tundra” I cannot rent a 16’. They claim I do not have the towing capacity due to my curb weight. Did they not see that stock 5.7 pull the fucking space shuttle???

    And, the 5x12 is $900

I have seen them used in the $3,000 to $4,000 range. If you buy used make sure wheel bearings are good before you take it on the long haul.
I understand you don't want to rent, but I have done the u-haul trailer rental before and it was $30.00 per day. I used it for two days and gave it back - $60 total. You will spend more than that just driving around looking for a used trailer. Their biggest is 12' though, so probably smaller than what you need.

    Still up in the air:

    Tucson or Asheville, NC

Tucson keeps me out West and inexpensive living with a cool vibe. Asheville, I stay in mountains and I’m near friends and relatives as my parents are getting older and need my assistance keeping up with their house. They live on a lake with an increble 3 acre lot on a penensula. It’s a ton of work for them.

I’m starting to lean heavily on NC now. It’s the responsible thing to do, plus my parents are wanting me there, which is obviously starting to make decision for me. I was going to pull the trigger on Tucson but the job I really wanted didn’t move me to the 5th round of interviews so I’m chalking it up as it wasn’t meant to be

That’s the biggest reason I’m moving. My new position is paying $30,000 less than the one I lost to moving violations, apparently because I’m not legally a stepfather any longer after the divorce was finalized get no child credits with the IRS, which in turn puts me in a position of owing almost $10,000 from last year. Once I changed my number of dependants for 2018 I’m not making enough to afford it up here. Plus, the boy is all screwed up, the oldest is heading to college, and the youngest moved in with her mom. There’s not a 2 bd condo up her for less than $300,000, nor a decent rental for less than $2000. It just makes sense, and things are starting to fall into place so I’m kinda leaning towards it’s supposed to go this way

Transfer is not an option. It’s a local company

Sux you gotta move, but brothers gotta do what brothers gotta do, especially if it's for the better. Better stop by and say bye before you leave, consider this a warning.

Anyway, I’m shedding home furnishings and truck accessories while still leaving what I “need” :D

Pulling the space shuttle is one thing, stopping it is another. The reason they say that is due to stopping that trailer with all the weight. They probably want you pulling it with a dually. However, if the truck has electric brakes, then stopping that weight won't be an issue.

I pulled a GTO weighing about 3800lbs, plus the uhaul trailer at 2200lbs from Ohio to Tennessee which as a little over 500 miles with my RCSB and I had no issues at all. You won't have any trouble pulling a 16' trailer. I think they weigh about 1600 lbs empty.
