I ended using Blend Mount to mount my Escort 360 and Mirror Tap to power the radar detector. Hope this helps.

thats the same set up I had in my 21.
I currently have a 22 and had to switch out mounts with my wife’s 4Runner.
Currently, it’s plugged into the cig outlet and I’m wanting to see if anyone has hardwired their 22s

Nope, works perfect. I switch that V1 between the tundra, my wife’s car and my motorcycle and it runs perfect on all 3.

I’ve been tagged with the V1 by laser. Not even a beep from it. Granted I was speeding but I lost faith in them. Now I only speed when I’m
    on 2 wheels

    Hi all,

I am looking to mount a camera the same way as all your radar detectors. My camera has a mini USB connection, not an RJ11. Any recommendations? Will any of these be "constant hot"?

You need 5 volts for usb so you can’t tap into the mirror connector which is 12 volts.

It’s near impossible to beat laser….

I was a prior cop for a lil while. only when a cop is "running radar" within your proximity and your radar is lucky enough to catch it before coming up to the cop and him seeing you is the radar worth its money. otherwise the radar is just catching false positives most of the time. most cops aren't inside their vehicles with their radar guns on. mostly because it's an inconvenience. a lot of times, they see you with their eyes going fast then they turn on radar to get mph or use their speedo to guesstimate while pulling you over

Truth….but that’s where the truly good units earn their $350-500 prices.
Escort, V1 and prem Beltronics are very good at smelling Ka signals(which I’ve found to be what LEO uses like 90% of the time-the rest is the occasional Laser-which is expensive-or the even rarer K band-usually used by low budget Sheriff depts, or municipality’s).
My Escort X80 can/will bust Ka at least a mile down the road. Every time.
If it goes off, ya better check up. It don’t lie to ya….there’s a cop w his Ka activated/on SOMEWHERE. Usually “on” in his unit while he’s headed somewhere.
It don’t take long for it to pay for itself.

Btw, Articdesert….wanna thank you for your service. I know a few cops, don’t know how they do it, but absolutely respect, and appreciate them all keeping America safe!
(Some of the bullchit I see today cops have to deal with!?-esp in huge metro cities?…….NOOOO WAY!)

Just curious what anyone's experience is with a radar detector in a '22 tundra for radar cruise and bsm mirrors? What detectors are you running and does it false alert to your own vehicle?

Gotta chime in here. I've been a detector user for 30+ years. Don't need it for speeding so much as i just like the tech. The brands that used to lead in quality/ability have changed. Today the brands worth checking out are Uniden, Valentine and Radenso and top-end Ecorts. Bel, Whistler, Cobra and other 'Walmart' brands are nothing but noise-makers that false constantly and will rarely give you proper notice.

For a budget detector check out the Uniden R3, R4, R7 or Randenso DS1. Keep in mind this is $300-$450. If you have a bigger wallet and want the latest/greatest look at a Uniden R8, Valentine Gen 1 V2 or Escort Redline. These will get you for $500-$800.

Detectors aren't meant to eliminate the risk of tickets, but can assist with reading the environment. Your situation will dictate it's usefulness. I for example live in the sticks and have long open roads. Running an R3 it gives me ample notice if anyone else has been hit with K or KA band radar. Laser, foget it. I'm in Wisconsin and i've only seen laser used on the freeway. Considering an upgrade to an R$ or R7 but for the money if you want a sensitive detector the R3 can't be beat.

Hope this helps for those considering a detector

I have an R3 and am a member of RDF. They certainly help with situational awareness. Hope the R3 or future detector can work with 3rd gen Tundras. Great info.

I am a big Uniden fan after they came out with the R1/3. Have R3’s for two motorcycles and recently picked up an R7 o try on The 22 Tundra. I have not mirror mounted yet and put a descent sized spacer under it so it pokes up above the infotainment screen just enough to be seen. I did the pretty standard setup for my usual driving area and have had no issues using in the truck. These newer units are pretty quiet with BSM filtering with each software update.
Depending on performance on next few trips I may see if I can leave it in the less than ideal lower position on the windshield. The reason I like it is the plug that is so convenient on the 22 dash and the ease of removing the unit as I live in Virginia , one of two spots detectors not approved to use. The R series is hit and miss whether blind to specter detector sniffers and also with a easy visual of a unit LEO in one local jurisdiction near me will pull you over if powered and readily displayed. The plug allows use but quick removal.

Years ago, I told a buddy (who is a deputy sheriff) that I was thinking of getting a radar detector and he flat out said, "If I see a radar detector or suspect a hidden one, they will never get off with just a warning. Under 10...doesn't matter. I also turn into a DOT compliance officer and I start checking tint, lights, and everything else I can." He was dead serious.

I never entertained the thought again after that. I also don't speed that much anyways. I mainly thought about it for rural speed traps where the speed limit seems to drop needlessly down to 25 or 35 miles before you get into (or out of) town.

Thankfully, WAZE takes care of most of those with the "report" feature.

I imagine if you got pulled over by him you'd be within your right to think that. Thankfully, I have I not. lol

Knowing him, I imagine that he thinks of it as literally a device designed to help people circumvent the law. We also get a ton of serious injury accidents here. The main road is a 35 mile long stretch of highway heading into & out of town. For a long time, the highway wasn't divided with a barrier and so head on collisions were an extremely common event. Thankfully, DOT added a 40 mile cable barrier a few years back.

I understand both sides of it.

The Valentine 1 Gen 2 has treated me well for 2 years, has saved my wallet on several occasions where I definitely would have been pulled over. They’re not fool proof, but once you get the feel of the alerts you get a pretty good sense of the situation, they sure help me. I have several buddies that are cops and none have given me a hard time about it.

I just just picked up a mirror tap from Blend Mount, going to be mounting as high as I can on the windshield. I haven’t pulled out the multimeter yet, but has anyone figured out where to tap in with the digital rear view mirror?

That my friend is a true story. I spent 20 years wearing a badge and would do the exact same thing.....and I was never even big into writing tickets, not my thing. To add a little more clarity to some of the explanations already mentioned, if the officer is using his radar properly, then your detectors are useless. They radar unit should be off until a speeder is seen and speed is visually estimated, only to be confirmed via radar - you are already had. The only officers you catch with the detectors are the lazy ones who aren't following proper procedures.

As others have said, "sounds like a dick", well, the way I see it is these people are clearly planning on violating the law, a law in place for the safety of others, who is the real dick? I would be good with speeders if even half of them could drive as well as they thought they could. A majority of collisions have speed as a factor in some fashion.
