If current Tundra quality is even in the same ball park, my truck should easily out live me.

Pretty amazing when you think of it. Not many engines at even 200k miles would look that good.

And this is why they removed the transmission cooler.

Given this was a 4.7, do we know if either the truck had tow package, or transmission cooler?

Not taking anything away from Tundra, but Victor Sheppard is an extraordinary owner. He drives a LOT of miles and does it gently.

Floor and seat coverings are usually a good way to evaluate the care a used car has been given. At a million miles, his floor covering looks way better than mine did at 180K miles. The seat covers are soiled (it was a work truck), but no large tears or seams splitting. Incredible...I re-covered mine once, and those were splitting and tearing when I sold the truck.

Observation: Unusual design on the piston tops. Is the 4.7L an "interference" engine, or does the unusual piston design prevent interference when the timing belt fails. I observed Victor last had his timing belt changed at 667K miles; maybe he decided to just drive that last timing belt until it broke.

It is possible it didn't get recorded. I sure wouldn't interval my timing belt service based on that sticker. But, I suspect the truck would have been regularly dealer-serviced as a business expense.

Just did a quick search. There’s a couple of 1.5 mil mile GM trucks and a 1.3 mil mile Ford F-250. Those were the first that came up.

    That is nuts.

Sure wish they posted something about service performed on the truck. No info means he probably did it himself or at an independent shop. At approx 77k miles a year (~295miles/day), I'm willing to bet he wasn't getting all crazy like most of us (me included) in maintenance. That's a work truck that needed to be working. Oil changes were probably 10k miles-ish.

Did you see the size of the owner? Dude is huge. And the seat was still in good shape? Dang.

In regards to the valve train, I see the 2 overhead camshafts are gear driven to each other. What I don't see or know is how the cams are driven by the crank, belt or chain?

4.7L = Belt. See the silver sticker on top of the plastic timing cover.

If they are same ones I saw on pickup truck talk they are diesels.

finding a gas engine based one with million miles without at least one engine swap is still needle in haystack territory.

I would bet $ that those were 3/4T trucks or bigger. Can you find a 1/2 gasser with >1M miles?

Another article on the same truck indicated that all service was done by his local dealer.

It would be cool to see an hour meter like the big trucks have. That engine has had a lot of idling time along with those miles.

What's with the manual transmission? I thought they were all automatics.
