    Hello Everyone
I have a question and if anyone here can help it would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2005 Tundra SR5 that just had a used engine installed by a Toyota dealership. However, they were unable to provide me verification on mileage. I do have the serial number, so my question is how would someone be able to verify the mileage on this engine in this type of situation. I know I'm more than likely s#*t outta luck but thought I'd post here for some possible help anyway.
    Thanks in advance.

First off, that's real shitty they did you like that. The only way I can think of to check mileage is to match the engine serial number to a vin number, and then pull up service info on that vin number if there were any dealership maintenance work ever done. It'll be on toyota owners.com

First off Tundra2 I greatly appreciate the information. I probably should've been a little more specific and had mentioned that the reasoning for the dealership installing a "junkyard" engine in the first was because their mechanic dropped a manifold bolt into the valve guide, completely ruining my original engine after driving it for about 100 miles. They guaranteed me an engine with lower mileage but then couldn't verify it once it was installed. All I have is a serial number off the engine block and a receipt from the junkyard they purchased it from, but again, with no verified mileage. Thanks again, just trying to gather as much info as possible for peace of mind.

Please don't think I was being snippy or snappy. I just re-read my post. Didn't intend to come off that way.

Go to the junkyard and see if you can get a Vin number off the truck. That's the only way I can think of.

Every junkyard I've talked to won't go into the yard for you. But my locale is probably different than yours

Compression test and ?blackstone? Oil analysis would tell you more than the milage.

If you got the vin # from the junkyard. You could run a carfax using the vin and probably see the mileage when it was last registered or inspected

Curious why your not getting your engine repaired or getting a long block replacement? Junk yard motor's warranty? No telling how long it will last compared to the one ruined.
That's a legal matter you could have won and had your engine rebuilt or one put in.

Thank you, Mr.bee. I'm gonna have the Compression Test done and I just checked out Blackstone web site.

Thank you, Weadjust. No VIN# or Mileage on the paper work and also spoke to the gentleman from the junk yard that handles the engines that go out, I couldn't get any info from him.

Thank you, Gascap. I was told they had found a manifold bolt in #6 Cylinder causing catastrophic failure, even after them sending it to a machine shop. That's when I demanded a New Short Block, but they said it would be to expensive. I was asked if I would want to go with a used 4.7 with the same or lower miles. My old engine had 103k, they said they found one with 90k and would give me a 12 month 12k miles from Toyota and 12 month 12k mile from the dealership, I said OK. Then when they couldn't produce mileage verification, deal was off, but they installed it anyway, yup those lying worms installed it. So this is where I'm at. I just picked up my truck today. So I'm gathering up all my info so I can take the next necessary steps.

I dropped a nut in my value and drove it for 2 days hahahahaha, then it started to misfire. It was just bouncing around in there till it finally got wedged. It was so hard to remove. in luckily I just pulled it out and nothing happened

Doesn't cost ya anything to talk to an attorney. Just find time to do that before more time passes. If they see you were taken advantage of they will represent you. It they take you on a contingent basis, you won the battle. They won't do anything w/o knowing they will get paid.

That is some shitty shit they have done to you. How they going to put a random engine with unknown miles. Honestly you should get an new engine. What you can do is talk to a lawyer and also contact toyota headquarters and see if you can get an engine out of them.

I mean, maybe have em just cut your bill (for whatever you were having done) in half. Mistakes happen.

Dealerships are the worst, they dont pay their mechanics anything, and all the work they do has been designed to make those underpaid, overworked dudes have to be in a rush all day long.

it'll be a 20 year old truck soon, if it runs better now than it did before you took it in, and they're giving you a 1 year warranty consider that a win.

I cant believe you didnt notice a missing manifold bolt within 100 miles.

First, you payed top dollar that all Toyota dealership's charge for their service to get the job done right the first time, w/o future failure on their part. Whenever a serious issue like this occurs, you should never pay for the dealership's mistake, ever. They aren't going to do you any big favors, so try not to think they will or did.
Without advise from an adult, an inexperienced kid would let what happened to you slide. That is until they learn after being burned and were hurt by it. If you can afford it later down the road (removal, repair/rebuild and reinstall) and don't care about what the dealership's remedy transpired to be, only then can such gross negligence be ignored and left at that. Getting an attorney to represent your best interest, however, would be a blessing to you.
