We were walking on the beach, and my wife mentioned it might be interesting to try a metal detector. I am imagining finding lots of junk like old bottle caps and spoons. But maybe (never having done it) I could be wrong. A few questions come to mind.

    1) Have you used a metal detector? Do you enjoy using it?

    2) Can you find anything to justify the cost?

    3) I see there are reviews for what they call the “best” detectors and the “best beginner” detectors. Besides the price, what is the difference?

    4) If we decide to try it, what else do you need to bring? I imagine a bag for stuff you find, a small shovel…what else?

I forgot to ask.....If you have experience with this, brands and models I should consider.

I have an equinox 800 that is way overkill for what I use it for but I use it at the beach once a year. I would search marketplace and find a used Garrett to see if you enjoy it. I go through phases about like with my police scanners. I think the Garrett 200 is a little over a hundred dollars so not a huge investment just to see if you enjoy it.

Oh and as far as value……maybe 4 dollars in change in a few years lol. There are guys on YouTube that do live digs and have seen them find rings and such but mostly fishing weights for me

Thanks! Is there a difference between the less expensive and more expensive? But from you reply, it is just for fun and get outside. You're not getting rich.
