As I get to my next 5K mile mark, I always get the "Maintenance Required" on my instrument panel. It does it every 5K miles, but I've seen some guys do 7k, even every 10k miles. Not sure I'd want to go to 10, but 7 sounds about right. Is there a way to turn off that Maintenance Required notification? It gets to the point where it stays on until you click it to something else. Annoying..

    Thanks..!

worked on my 2nd gen, shouldn't be a problem on yours.

    definitely helps ease the annoyance!

Well that worked like a champ. Even said "Resetting Maintenance Data" with a progress bar as it did it. SWEEET!

For those who dont want to read the article:
*Turn the key to the ON position (do no start the truck)
*Press Odometer to "TRIP A", turn the key off
*Press and hold Odometer button and turn key to ON position again. You will see it resetting the data with the progress bar.

I guess someone has to be such an jerk that they have to say it twice. Feel better now?

Most everyone is really cool here, so feel free to ask anything, and there are always guys willing to help and not throw the "manual" jab at them.

And honestly, I first asked how to turn it OFF, not just to reset it. But if OFF is not an option, I'm happy someone helped to reset.

Posting twice was a mistake. I didn't think it went through the first time, but I am still amazed at how many don't bother to look in the manual that comes with the truck before asking someone to figure it out for them. People are just lazy.

But he did initially say that he wanted to turn it off, not reset it (which just turns the light off). I think his intention for the question was so that he no longer gets the notifications with the light. No harm in asking since that is not in the manual.

I get the frustration, but why comment on it at all. Just move on. This is not the forum that is up their own ass about governing people making repetitive posts or "manual" posts. 99% of people here are more than happy to answer even repetitive questions over and over. We (LAW, HA) may rip on someone every once in a while about the manual questions, but not in a, "Go look in the manual idiot, never post again" way.

Well this post and answer had a benefit to me, I was never looking to do my own reset yet since the truck is new, but it's nice that I just learned the procedure just from reading random posts.

I had to find that out back in 2009 when we got our Scion. The dealer acted like it was some trick and he wouldn't show me. So I looked it up and figured it out myself.

What? Man I would NEVER rip on someone who's so damn lazy he can't reach in his own glove compartment, pull out the manual, take it out of its nice soft faux leather cover, open to the index, look for Maint light, and flip a couple hundred pages to find it, and read.

    NEVER POST ON HERE AGAIN!!!!

The manual is annoying. It's a scavenger hunt. When one index to lead you to a second index which leads you to a page which tells you the pages that has specific information which leads to the page with the reset which leads to a page with the instruction on how to reset. Nope Ain't nobody got time for that. I usually google it, 100X faster than the manual lol.

    check your manual law.:boink:
Toyota calls for Mobil one full synthetic only. I will be sticking to every 5K on mine, oil is a lot cheaper than a new engine.

I change mine (synthetic) every 7k

There are guys with tundys that use regular motor oil. I would rather not, but so far, haven't heard of any problems. :argue::argue::argue:

I wouldn't chance using regular oil our engines are way expensive. Treat it good and the thing will run longer than the body will hold up. I shoot for every 5K but sometimes don't get around to it for a minute. I used to know a Toyota master tech that had a supercharged 1st gen. He had a super high tech remote filter on it and only changed the full synthetic every 100K!

Wouldn't chance it myself either. Just tellin you what ive seen. I like to be better safe than sorry and figure 7k aside from the 10k recommended mileage is a good area. I'm with you on treating the truck well and it returning the favor 100%.
Holy crap! Now that'll get your supercharger money back LOL

If I read the manual will it change my oil for me?

I'm one that struggles with the manual, not because the words are really big, but because half the information is short, vague, or doesn't apply to my "short cab."

A lot of the manual instructs me how to use buttons I don't have, and then all the obvious stuff that I already know how to use or won't do.

Tundras.com is a great reference for ADD guys like me that don't have patience nor time to care bout 97% of what's in the manual. Bottom line, it's not my go to. It's like using the encyclopedias that are at your great aunt's house...Google is much quicker.
Tundras.com is quicker, more informative, and a lot more fun than staring at a book by yourself, it gives you perspectives you hadn't thought of and workarounds that the manual fails to provide.

Thanks to the moderators I have a new set of "friends," have learned a ton, and laugh all day long!

I think I'll stay away from this manual thing!!!

I'm surprised they still put manuals with new cars/trucks these days. Think of that print job, the paper used and the cost involved. Just put a manual online, done. No one uses them anyway, ha.

Thank you for not letting me get out of this chair to figure out how to turn the maint light off. Now I have to figure out how to make it out of this room, downstairs and into the garage without getting up......
