Couple questions I'm looking for help with. Hopped in my '18 CM yesterday, that now has 4800 miles, and at start up, the display screen says "maintenance required soon", I'm guessing it's set at 5k miles, but I also was under the impression the oil changes were every 10k? Can someone shed some light on this for me....along this same line, is 10K really what everyone does oil changes at? I barely hit 10k a year.....thanks for all the help, I'm only 4800 miles into my first Tundra.

Do you have a Flex Fuel engine? Oil changes are 5,000 miles for those.

Also, I think that the oil change, regardless of the miles, has the disclaimer that you are supposed to do it every 6 months. (So, it will say change oil every 10,000 miles or 6 months - whichever comes first).

Perfect, thanks for the quick replies. With, Toyotacare, any idea how big of a deal it is if I get it schedule before I'm at the 5k, or do they make you wait?

Depends on the dealer. If you are capable, I always tell people to do it themselves. Dealerships don't put their "top mechanics" on oil changes.

Me dealer scheduled me ahead of time when I got my Tundra brand new. Appointment day came up and I had 2844 miles on mine, 5 months, called them to make sure they would do it. They said yes.

The manual will tell you what is required at 5k intervals. Oil check, tire rotation, fluids, etc.

Most of them will do it if close. Just call and ask them. They do not expect you to bring it in exactly at 5k.

I do all of my own oil/filter changes. Will let the dealer do the tire rotation every 5k miles. I have a 2wd, have not towed yet and are not in harsh conditions (dust, etc.) so I will go 10,000 for my first oil/filter c

I let others do it plenty of times to my vehicles. But I set up certain fail safes, to ensure that it is done correctly. Like writing a number in permanent ink on the back side of the oil filter where they can't see it. Putting a little black paint (Not too much) on the access panel of the skid plate to see if it has been broken. Then I take pictures of it with the date....... Is that bad of me, I don't care if it is really, because I have caught plenty of them red handed, and still make them re-do it. (Note: Also take pictures of your oil drain plug too! This is very important for if they use an impact on it)

...which is exactly why I do this maintenance task myself, always have since 1961.
