2022 Tundra SR5 seems to lurch and buck at low speeds (35-40) when just lightly pressing the pedal to maintain the speed. This only happens when the temp gauge is just beyond cold while warming up. It goes away once the vehicle is warmed up completely. Had it at the dealer and they said it was a pcm update, but after doing that it still does it. I suspect they just did a trans adaptive relearn and it has just come back. Ideas?

I dont have a 3rd gen, but my 2.5 kinda does something similar when its cold. In general, i dont think these new, modern transmissions like to operate while cold. Mine will kinda rev hang for a few seconds at low speeds for the first few minutes when cold, especially if i roll a stop sign and reapply gas pedal. If I am gentle on the throttle it wont do it.

My 3rd gen has 3.2k miles and it does the same thing, especially during warm up and during slow speed traffic or even on grade. The transmission shifts really rough in eco mode and normal mode was fine but I took it a nearby dealer to get it checked out because it was surging after coming to a full stop but after the update, I feel like the truck drives worse even in normal mode now. I think they did some updates to the tcm and maybe a relearn. It feels like at low speed the motor runs out of torque and it shifts to first gear which is brutal because I'm going uphill I just feel like something is gonna give out soon because of all the shock going through the transmission even if doesn't it just feels wrong this isn't how a torque converted transmission is supposed to shift. I even started noticing grinding noises from my transmission, especially after it is warmed up when I rev it to 2k rpms and when the engine speed starts to slow down the transmission makes 2 grinding sounds at 1.1k rpms and around 850 rpms I can't replicate it at the dealer and the tech says it drives fine. I think I might get rid of this thing before 10k miles but idk what else id get the only company I trusted was Toyota and now I feel shit out of luck but hey it gets good mpgs for a brick lol.

That does not sound good at all. I think there was a couple threads on tranny issues similar to yours recently. Did you do a search for similar issues? I think they got their tranny replaced.

Thanks for starting this thread. I was getting ready to start the same. I have been studying this and noticed it happens around 1200 RPM with light pedal pressure. Only seems to happen when cruising at steady slower speeds or with slight incline. It feels like it is loping and the lockup torque converter should release and is doesn’t. Or like driving a 5 speed manual too slow in 5th gear when you should be in 4th gear. It is most noticeable when engine is cold but mine still does it after engine is warm. Its not a big deal but noticeable.

This is different from hesitation, almost stall when you hit the gas after a stop and nothing happens then it surges forward with too much acceleration. This only seems to happen after cold start.

I’m thinking about visiting the dealer to see if TSB helps the hesitation. These are minor issues almost not worth messing with. Love my Tundra and wonder if messing with it could make it worse or bring on new trans quirks.

There’s a TSB for this on the TSB thread.

For both issues? Ive seen the one for hesitation from stop then surge forward. is this the one you are talking about?

Yes sir, also the one for the pop clunk sound. It’s the same TSB. I had it done on my vehicle Friday and have had no issues on cold starts at all. Been dealing with it since November of 21. I just got in the habit of remote starting my truck to avoid it until now.
