My dad will go from the stock steel wheels to the aluminum 18 inch Trd off road wheel. Do they both use the same lugs nuts?

The steel wheels use the acorn style nuts. Aluminum wheels require the shank style nuts.

I think the part number is 90942-A1001 (please check) but would recommend getting the solid nuts rather than the OEM nuts so you do not have the 'swollen' issue down the road.

    Nothing worse than swollen nuts.

The lug nuts for the aluminum wheels use a washer, the steel wheel lug nuts use a conical style. The aluminum wheel lug nuts have a conical end and can be used on a steel spare wheel.

Don’t use the conical style lug nuts on an aluminum rim, you’ll ruin the rim.

Usually the rim seller (on Offerup or whatever) would give you the lugnuts with the sale as they don’t have any use for them. The Toyota Aluminum style nuts are pretty specific to the design.
