Hello, When my 2015 Tundra is at idle the oil pressure gauge needle sits on L is that normal for these at start up when they are cold? Or do I have some major problems? Thank you

Where do you live? Running thicker oil will help bump the pressure.

Currently in Nevada, the truck has been sitting for a couple years I just got it running today, on top of the low oil pressure reading I’m hearing some clanking, could those be the lifters just needing to re-pump themselves?

No check engine light? Assuming no light - I’d put some fresh gas in it - get it warm - drive it hard - then dump the oil for 5-30.

No check engine light on atm, when I increase the rpm’s gradually to 2000 that’s when the oil pressure needle will move. But thank you

    Not normal.
Dipstick level normal? Then change oil/filter
Still low, could be bad oil pump or sensor
    How many miles?

Replace oil is the first thing to do in such situations.

If the lifters are empty you can't drive it hard. Well, you can, but one time only. There's a procedure how to refill them gently, it takes 30-40 minutes.

Dipstick is showing half a quart overfilled, gonna change the oil then throw a pressure gauge on it, 142k miles.

Nevada? You'll need to start that truck and get it down to operating temps. It's overheating just sitting there.

Wow totally wrong. I even researched beforehand and thought I found evidence it was shim and bucket.

It can be replaced with aftermarket solid tappets, in performance application.

I've just never seen a lifter in a modern Toyota engine, granted that's only a handful I've torn down but all of them were bucket and shim.

Yeah, 3UR was designed already outdated ;) No way on Earth any engine makes 1M miles w/o lash adjustment.

Wasn't the first million mile Tundra a 4.7 though? And it uses bucket on shim, unless I'm retarded about that too

Yeah, 2UZ was the first M miles Tundra. My 35 lbs of Toyota 2011 workshop manuals have only 1UR and 3UR. Wikipedia says "bucket tappets" for 2UZ.

Oil filter could be just gunked up, change oil and filter and check again?

On the 5.7, the rocker pivots are hydraulically compensated, no adjustment.

On the 4.7, shim under bucket requiring camshaft removal to adjust clearances to spec. My 2006 with 4.7 had 225,000 miles on it and never needed adjustment (thankfully).
