I had asked this question earlier about how much fuel is left when the low fuel light and warning comes on... most people said 6 gallons. On my road trip yesterday I tested mine for the first time and that's exactly what I saw. I refilled right after getting the "Low fuel" light and warning message and she took 26 gallons. At that time the computer was also saying 23 miles to empty which would mean that you would reach "empty" with ~5 gallons remaining. I am curious to know exactly how much of the 32 gallons are useable but not curious enough to really explore the limit... and we have plenty of range in any case.

It is all usable. The DTE is conservative to protect the people who run it to the wire. You can run all 32 gallons out of the truck, but you risk overheating your fuel pump or stalling on inclines due to fuel starvation because the fuel can be tilted away from the fuel pickup.

Let’s consider that the fuel tanks don’t fill to 100% capacity, I filled up over the weekend with 32 miles til empty and it took 28 gallons, so that seems about right to me, sure the low fuel warning was on beforehand but I’m not willing to bet on 6 gallons being in there still

typical toyota reserve amount is dependent on tank size, but normally its 10% reserve or 20% depending on combined mpg of the vehicle (or around 70-100 miles range)

I got the 2023 SR with smaller tank, is it possible to buy the bigger tank and install it? Seems like plenty of room there. How would the field gauge needle work? Does it have to be calibrated or something.

I seen someone on Facebook who drove there truck way past the low fuel light and put 31.7 gallons in the truck. I’m uncomfortable at 1/4 tank.

If I buy one I promise to run it until it literally starts sputtering for fuel. Then we’ll know!

I’ll just carry a 5 gallon Jerry can full of gas with me when I run the experiment.

I just ran mine 15 miles past empty and filled it up with 28.4 gallons. I’d say it’s a 4 gallon reserve minimum past 0

lol i like to see you people do that when its -20F out up here in ND during our winters.

my wife freaks out on matter the time of the year when it reaches 1/2 tank (more so during the winter months). trust me, you dont want to get stuck in winters up here with less than 1/2 a tank.

it pretty much becomes a habit after 10-20 yrs of being up here to fill up at 1/2 tank.

plus it helps to stomach the cost of a 1/2 tank vs an empty tank.

I drove from NJ to NC on one tank of fuel. at 690 miles or so into my trip my light came on but didn't get gas for another 45 miles...730+ miles on a single tank of gas but I was averaging 21-23mpg. I filled up 32 gallons shortly after.

On normal commutes (75mph +) I get about 450-500 depending on my foots mood. Usually only do about 27-28 gals of fuel then.
