Like the title states. I've not been driving my truck since I determined that my coolant leak was coming from the water pump, reservoir emptying after of couple days, that I'd drive my car while I determine whether or not my Daddy and I are going to do the repair or cough up $1000 for my trusted mechanic to do it. I had to make a quick trip to the UPS store so I decided to drive the truck. When I cranked it up there was a very distinct knock coming from the engine. I couldn't pinpoint where but it became more faint as the truck idled. While driving I didn't hear anything even at WOT.

What do you all think that was?

Do you mean Loud or indeed Load ?

In any case, what type oil are you using and when was last time it was changed.
Also, do you still practice the same as you've mentioned in other posts ?
After sitting awhile and on first start, I can believe it might take a bit took circulate oil into all the passage ways. If it makes that noise every time every day, that's a different story.

Automotive stethoscope can help pinpoint noises in the engine bay. Are you sure the water pump is the source of coolant loss?

If you’re hearing funny knocking sounds coming from the engine, don’t drive it WOT. Especially if you haven’t determined what it is. Have you tried to restart the engine cold since then?

    Sorry! Yes..."Load"

I use 5w-30 and I change the oil and filter as soon as the maintenance light comes on.

I use whatever synthetic blend is on sale. It's all the same as long as it has that "API Donut" stamp.

The noise faded to nothing in about 5 minutes. I didn't go WOT once I pulled out of the driveway. I didn't hear anything but my Thrush mufflers

Yes I restarted it again... nothing.

So just the single episode of knocking after sitting for 4 days. If it doesn’t pop up again, it may forever remain a mystery….

Yeah, it's pretty handy to know if you post things over in the 1st gen marketplace.

Yup. Maybe just bad gas? Someone pissed in OP's tank?

If you feel froggy and wanta learn more, head to your profile and add some specs about your 1st Gen on the “Vehicle one-line Description” line….ENG(V6/V8), Type(SR5, Limited), CAB(Reg/AC/DC)….etc or at least put it in your initial post when asking for assistance. Various things different on each year.

My 2000 will sit for days if not a week or more at times and does not do this.

My truck hasn't been cranked since yesterday evening...just remote started it while standing by the hood. Absolutely nothing! Oh well!
