In the late night hours of Halloween, my house was flooded and my kids and I lost everything. My truck got us to safety. The water got up to the floorboard of my truck which is lifted 3” and on 33” tires. But we’re safe. Looking for an inexpensive cap so I can lock our belongings up while we move to Colorado. Any leads of one in Vermont would be greatly appreciated!!

OMG dude so sorry to hear and see this. Glad your family is OK; that #1 priority right there.

I've helped people clean up their homes after being flooded (water made it halfway to the second floor starting from the basement) and it's no joke.

Hoping you recover quick and insurance helps too. But just be thankful your family is safe.

The insurance they we had that we were told covered floods doesn’t cover river floods. It covers floods if my house caught fire and it got flooded due the the fire dept putting it out. Fucking slim insurance agent.

They're absolute scum! I'm curious what provisions the agent has in his/her policy for flood coverage.

Glad you and the family are safe; Good luck with the move/transition!

Do you think any floodwater got into any of the drivetrain elements? That rear diff is particularly vulnerable I'd imagine (w/out the breather mod).

That's actually pretty standard for insurance unfortunately. It doesn't cover water intrusion unless you have flood insurance. I'm so, so sorry this happened to you but I'm very glad your family is safe.

So sorry my friend. We got brushed by that same storm - trees down everywhere from the wind but lots less rain. I’m hoping things work out for you. I honestly think you’re better off looking for a small enclosed trailer for the time being if you can find a cheap one. Even a U Haul might work for a week or so if you’re desperate. Local moving companies often will rent out space cheap in their semi trucks if they’re not being used... or even I store it businesses. Wish I was closer, I’d loan you my locking tonneau and an old enclosed trailer.

    That's just wrong.

Would you be willing to post (if site policy permits) items needed most, clothe sizes for your family, and where things could be sent?

@Secret Santa Could we possibly add a donation list?

Don't ever take their word for it. Read the fine print and make sure they aren't screwing you (legally that is, they're clearly screwing you on some level...) If you don't find a specific exclusion, get someone with a legal background to at least give it a look. I'd leave paying for a lawyer till you have some idea if it's worth going down that road. There may be ombudsmen or whatever they're called down there in some office with oversight and there's always media. Bad press sometimes shames them into settling. Don't give up too easily.

I don't know why everyone is hating on insurance. Insurance doesn't cover floods unless you pay for flood insurance. If you live in an area that might flood one day, get flood insurance ASAP.

Now, if a pipe in your home breaks and floods your house, they will cover that. But water coming into your home from an outside source is not covered.

My Friend I always find it hard to express sorrow at times like this.

So I share with you these words, not mine but i think appropriate now:

    It takes strength to make

    Your way through grief,

    to grab hold of life

    and let it pull you

    forward
